Choose a band to match engagement ring, or stand alone?

Ms. Mary Kate, on January 17, 2018 at 8:46 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11

I have a very beautiful engagement ring--a restyling of the stone in my mother's old engagement ring, set on a twisted double-shank band. My jeweler (who is a true artist!) is encouraging me to get a contoured band, or contoured bumper bands, to fit into the engagement ring. I think that'd look lovely with the engagement ring, but would look funny without! (Unless someone begs to differ? Have never seen a contoured band worn solo).

As much as I love the ring, I wonder if I will wear it much after our wedding. It is a full-carat high-quality rock on there, and as careful as I am I must admit it gets knocked around a bit. I'd hate for something bad to happen to it.

Is there a type of band that would look good with the engagement ring AND standing alone? Suggestions appreciated! We have an OK budget thanks to some old gold trade-ins generously donated by older family members...maybe $600-800 (but that has to cover his band too).

Maybe it's just me, but why would you want a beautiful ring you can't wear? I'd just advise getting it insured and then go for it.

It's not going to do you much good locked up in a jewelry box.

I have a carat as well and wear my ring every day. Mine gets bumped around quite a bit as I spend 10-15 hours a week as a package handle sorting boxes. But that’s what good Insurance is for and frequent inspections to make sure everything is in good condition.

I have an engagement ring very similar to yours and I ended up going with a gold mobius wedding band. I wanted something simple that was still very unique. I was considering going for an art deco wedding band, but decided not to.

Oh wow, I hadn't heard of mobius and so just looked it up: how cool! I like how it is twisted but is a solid, single shank. Thanks!

I've got a .87 center stone and over .5 surrounding it. I work in a job that requires it to take a beating daily. Still nothing wrong with it. I also have it insured and get it inspected every 6 months at least. For my ring I'm going with a straight rose gold plain band. Mine curves differently than yours, but I liked the straight band because of its simplicity. Here's a pic for reference. You shouldn't be afraid to wear your engagement ring daily either. I understand not wearing it for working out, hiking, etc.

Ummm I would never not wear my engagement ring. I guess I just don't understand. Why don't you just have it insured?

I agree - get it insured and get the contoured band and wear them together. it will look great and if it gets knocked around, thats what the insurance is for!
