Chinese wedding traditions

Cammie, on February 4, 2017 at 2:26 AM Posted in Planning 0 3

My fiancé and I are of Chinese decent and my family is super traditional where as his is more relaxed. We live in Orlando Florida and there's not much available as far as a traditional Chinese banquet but we still want to honor our traditions and do a tea ceremony before the western ceremony I'm struggling with timelines... if I should cram everything in one day or do a two day process and possibly have to pay for photographer/video both days and hair and make up... has anyone incorporated or planned a Asian-American wedding???

We used to have a regular that incorporated some customs into her wedding. Most memorably she changed into a red dress.

Sorry I can't be more help!

My fiancé and I are having a traditional Chinese tea ceremony in the morning with immediate family then having a ceremony and reception at the venue early in the evening. Most (90%) of the guests will not attend the tea ceremony and will arrive for the evening ceremony. I'll wear a traditional qi pao for the tea ceremony and will change into my wedding gown for the western ceremony. Rather than hiring a photographer and MUA for two days, you can hire an all day photographer for both ceremonies and reception. In my region, most photographers have packages varying from 8 hours to 12 hours and we just cover travel expenses between the locations. If your parents are open to the idea of having a tea ceremony at the venue, this could be incorporated before the western ceremony or done during cocktail hour as well. There are tons of ways to incorporate our culture, it ultimately depends on how traditional your family is (mine is EXTREMELY traditional).

I'm not Chinese, but FH is. Our Ceremony starts at 5:30pm. We hired the photo/video for the day. We plan to do a first look than after we are saving time for a tea ceremony privately at his parents house or during the reception. We are leaving that decision up to his parents, whatever they are more comfortable with. I think this can be accomplished in one day.
