Children's roles

Lacy, on July 10, 2020 at 5:47 PM Posted in Family and Relationships 0 16

My FH and I each have a daughter (ages 7&8). We are very close to each of them as we all live together. We were originally going to make them both flower girls in our wedding. I have been thinking about it more and more and I would like my daughter to by Maiden of Honor, because I want her to play a more important role. It has been me and her alone for about 6 years prior to meeting my FH. My question for you wonderful brides is what would be an equivalent role for my soon to be step daughter? We were thinking of possibly something on his side so shes standing next to her dad as my daughter is standing next to me. She wouldn't be a groomsman, what would she be called? And is that weird? Or does anyone else see the beauty in it as I do? We both have our traditional wedding party as well.

She could be a groomsmaiden. I think it would be sweet.

That’s really sweet! My FH and I have younger kids, so they are ring bearer and flower girl.

You could go with “groom’s girl” or “best girl” rather than “woman,” too.

I was also going to suggest best girl, instead of best man.

I love that Idea. My FH has a daughter who will be 12 when we get married and I also gave her the maid of honor role. Maybe your FH's daughter can be the maiden of honor. I personally think it sounds better than best woman or best girl and it it means the same thing as maid of honor. I think maid of honor and maiden of honor sound nice together as well.

I have two sons (6 & 8 years old), and they love their soon-to-be-stepdad DEARLY (and vice versa). We are having one of them stand on each side, and they are the only "bridal party" we are having at our very small micro wedding.

We asked both of them what they would be comfortable with, and how they see themselves participating. We asked if they would like to be included in the vow part, if they wanted to just be in the audience, etc. and as a family we came up with the idea that they will be with us in the ceremony, and can hold our hands if they want or whatever, but they will not have to speak or be THE center of attention (they are both pretty shy and soft spoken).

I really like grooms girl and best girl! I’ll run those by him! Another question is should her match his groomsmen Tux color (blue) or my bridesmaids (shades from burgundy to pale pink)? 🤷‍♀️

This is a perfect idea for a micro wedding! I love it! 💜 I don’t think we are going to do vows with the kids but maybe a unity ceremony.

My daughter will be my maiden of honor. I have my long time best friend as a Matron of honor. If my daughter was a bit older she would have been my only honor position. 💜

Thank you! I think she’s going to love standing by her daddy instead of on my side as a bridesmaid or flower girl.

I think you could go either way, I’d ask if she has a preference. Matching blues might be difficult to depending on how close of a match you want. What color tie is your FH wearing? Maybe she could match his tie?

FH just told me his tie and vest are burgundy so I think she can wear burgundy too! That was a surprise cause a week ago he was in all Gray!

Actually it's maid of honor for not married and matron of honor for a married woman.

Someone mentioned “groomsmaiden”. I think that goes great with your “maiden of honor”. Good luck and congratulations! 🎉

Yes I’m aware of that. I have a matron of honor myself. My suggestion was they can both have the same title but for one just use maid, and use the full word maiden for the other.
