Child as their +1

Nikki, on September 10, 2019 at 12:23 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 5
I have a friend who is a single mom. I've addressed the wedding invitation to just her and I received it back today with her guest count as 2. She's brought her son with her to events she attends in the past. How do I tell her if he is in fact her +1 that there are no children invited to the wedding? I don't have a wedding website and I addressed the invite to just her. Thanks!

You might want to clear this up with her as soon as possible so she has time to arrange daycare. Just be prepared for a decline.

"Hey, I got your RSVP. We're so excited for you to join us, but we wanted to clarify that we're having a child-free wedding"

I would just reach out to her, asking as to who her plus one actually is, ask her to clarify.

If it's not her child and you will allow her a +1, ask for their name.

If it is in fact her son or you're not giving people +1's, just tell her nicely that the invite was just for her and/or that there are no children invited.

If you just addressed it to her, it shouldn't matter who that extra person is, she wasn't given a plus one in the first place. I would reach out to her and say "I just received your RSVP and I'm so glad that you can make it to the wedding! Unfortunately, the invitation was intended for you only and we cannot accommodate any extra guests. Please let me know if this changes your RSVP."
