Chiffon or Satin????

kc, on January 2, 2014 at 10:52 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 27

Hi!

I went to The House of Brides today with two of my five brides maids. After trying on a ton of dresses, we narrowed it down to two dresses that are pretty much the same style. Both dresses have sweet heart necklines, ruching, and a little bit of bling on the side. One dress is made out of chiffon, and the other dress is made out of satin. Before I buy a dress, I want to know which fabric looks better on bigger girls? The House of Brides did not have bigger sizes to try on. So, I wasn't able to see my sister in any dresses. She is nervous about how the chiffon, and satin will look on her since she just had a baby. I want my brides maids to feel comfortable and look beautiful. Will chiffon look better since the fabric is light and airy? Or is satin a better choice since it has a lot of structure? My color is turquoise, but my brides maids like the look of egg plant. So, I am willing to change my color if they feel more comfortable in a darker color.

I would think chiffon would be better. I don't know for sure but that is probably what I will have my girls in.

I think satin will be more shiny and could possibly highlight spots women might want to be more disguised.

I also think it really depends on the style of the dress.

I recommend chiffon. It's more airy and flowy.

My preference is chiffon. Satin isn't as forgiving, and it's heavy, and chiffon is soft and romantic... purely my opinion. I was in a wedding in March and we wore satin dresses... very uncomfortable. All my girls picked this chiffon dress and they look amazing in them.

I used to be a lot bigger and satin is not forgiving at all! not to mention if it gets hot and sweaty it can show up pretty badly. I vote Chiffon

Satin isn't the most forgiving fabric. Pretty much everyone looks lovely in chiffon.

Chiffon is generally more forgiving, however, the lining of the dress can make all the difference for a satin dress. i think in the case of bigger girls, chiffon will be better

My BMs are all different shapes. I have three curvy girls, we went with a long chiffon dress, looks great on all of them

Chiffon is usually more figure flattering and foley while many satin dresses I've seen are a bit stuff and shiny (which can accentuate priblem areas).

I went and had my bridesmaids (sizes 12 and 28) I wanted chiffon and they hated how it looked! It was so flowy it added extra volume and made them look bigger. The satin was much better on both girls. Yes they were a little prom like but they are happy and comfy I'm happy

I absolutely despise chiffon. I think it's awful. It seems to cling to every roll and bump. My girls wore short stretch satin dresses from DB and they were nice. There isn't a whole lot of options for BM dresses unfortunately.

I'm a bigger girl and hate satin. I think if it's tighter and shiny it tends to look bad on me. My boobs are large and any shiny fabric on them makes them stand out more, and trust me... that doesn't need to happen!

That being said, it really depends on the dress and the shape of the girls. Satin and a structured dress might look better, but a chiffon that flows might also look better depending on their shape.

I would go with chiffon. It def seems to be the more forgiving of the two fabrics.

I prefer chiffon over satin. Chiffon has always flowed over my body really well and been really flattering. Satin can get too shiny sometimes.

Chiffon for sure. Its more flowy and forgiving. Satin can be stiffer and shiny - thus highlighting problem areas and doesn't move with the body, either.

Satin emphasizes every lump and bump on a woman's body, while chiffon floats over them. Please go for chiffon...
