Chicken and Veg entree option only

Alexandra, on July 2, 2019 at 6:06 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 15
I was planning on a catering package with only 1 meat option. I'm including a vegetarian lasagna option on the RSVP with a description of each. But all the advice on the internet says guests really dont like having only 1 meat option. Should I pay $600 for a 2nd beef entree? That's 4% of my budget and needs to be cut from somewhere else. Do you think it will be a huge difference to the guests?

I think having 2 meats is always nice. I am really picking with chicken. I don't like chicken if it has bones in it so if you had fried chicken I wouldn't eat it. We went to a wedding a few weeks ago and they had fried chicken so I got ham instead even though they asked what guests wanted it was buffet style so they had no way of knowing if guests ate they put on the RSVP card.

I think 1x meat & 1x veggie is fine. I would say just be careful with veggie lasagna - as it’s not for vegans (if you had any) bc of the cheese.

Do you have a lot of vegetarian guest?

If yes, leave it the same.

If not or if not sure, then change it to 2 meat options.

Ultimately, they are GUEST, and while you want to be a good host, it's what you want, and its a free meal for them.

Two meats is always nice but if it's not in the budget, it's not in the budget. I went to a wedding a few months ago with just chicken and it was fine. They also had salad one starch and two veggies with a roll. Everyone had enough to eat and nobody complained that I could tell.

If you did go with two meats what part of the budget would you cut to make it work?

The standard buffet at my venue only included 1 meat, which I just didn’t think was sufficient. It was actually only about $200 more for us to do a plated meal (chicken, beef, salmon, and vegetarian options) than it would’ve been to add a 2nd meat to the buffet. Does your caterer have a plated option?

A buffet starts at $1000 more, and comes with 2 meats.

The budget is bare bones already. Maybe the wedding dress. I saw some really good reviews for a $100 dress online.

Yes, a handful of vegetarians and pescatarians. Caterer says vegetarian dishes are no extra charge. Dietary restrictions (allergies, vegans) will be accommodated no charge.

You have two entrees and a lot of pescatarian and vegetarian people it seems logical to me o have the dinner choices this way.
I guess go boneless if possible because a lot of people prefer it.

Then you have your answer. Chicken only and it will be fine. I promise you that!

I would get another meat. For example, my sister is both allergic to chicken and lactose intolerant. She wouldn't be able to eat anything. Options are always a good idea.

Nope. Don't do it. Two options is plenty. Chicken and lasagne are excellent choices.

I say leave the 1 meat option. Most people like chicken and if they don't, they can always eat other stuff that comes with the chicken or the veg lasagna

What is the veggie option? I often order the vegetarian option even though I’m not vegetarian because a lot of the times it’s pasta and I like pasta more than meat.

Thank you everyone. The responses here were mixed, but I feel confident with the 1 meat and 1 veg option. Especially because the caterer will accommodate all allergy requests. Lasagna is a fairly hearty veg meal, so I think it will appeal to enough people.
