Cheese bar? Yay or nay?

Astrid, on November 20, 2016 at 12:33 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 28

I seen this cheese bar while looking up things to somehow add in cheese. What do you think of the idea?

Don't get me wrong I love cheese. My main concern would be it sitting out too long.

To me, a good cheese bar is going to add a lot of stuff: three or four different cheeses, two or three breads/crackers, some savory accompaniments like olives or meats, and some sweeter accompaniments, like apple wedges or dates. Maybe a cheese ball or baked Brie, too, just for variety. That looks like what your picture has, and I would absolutely go for a cheese bar like that. Cheddar bites with toothpicks stuck in them, maybe not.

That looks delicious and amazing. However, consider temperatures and how it would be managed. Talk to your catering company and see if they offer this and how they would manage it.

Heck yeah!!! I love cheese though. HaHa! A cheese plate is included with passed appetizers for our cocktail hour. I'll miss that part but I know my guests will be happy.

Cheese makes me happy. Love this idea! Agree with other PPs, consider temperatures. But overall I'd love the idea as a guest

We used to do cheese bars all the time catering. They are pretty standard. I'm vegan, so maybe give some thought to people who don't eat dairy if this is all you are offering (I couldn't tell from your posts). There are plenty of amazing nondairy cheese from places like Kite Hill and Miyoko's Kitchen that you could include if you need them.

We used to do them all the time, and I think it's great. With real cheese.

We're having a similar display with the passed apps for our cocktail hour. I'd just verify with your caterer that they can maintain the temperature as needed.

I was a banquet/private event server for a long time and we loved cheese plates- because no one in the party ate them so we had a snack leftover. For this reason I won't be doing a cheese plate- as much as I love cheese! I'd rather spend $ on something I feel everyone would like. Obviously wasn't all the time- but happened more often than not. So I guess to echo PP, know your crowd Smiley smile
