Check made out to wrong person...

So a legitimate question in the midst of all the kerfuffle....
I got a check from a distant relative yesterday. Awkward thing is it was made out to “Amy and FH’s First name FH’s Middle name”.
I’m guessing he thought FH’s middle name was his last name...read the invitation wrong...I don’t know how you do that but whatever. How do I present the issue to him if the bank won’t let us deposit it?

    Is kerfuffle a bad word? We never got a list...


    I honestly wouldn't worry about it. We had a few checks made out weirdly. Just take it to the bank and deposit it, make sure he takes an ID that shows his full name just in case.

    I would try to deposit it before you worry about it.

    It probably won't be an issue.

    Our bank let us deposit a few checks that were written funky, I would try first before talking to him about it

    Mobile deposit into an account w his name on it. If they don't accept that, he should take it to a branch along with his id.

    So it’s not technically to the wrong person... just listed first and middle name.
    As PP said, take it to bank, shouldn’t be an issue. I’ve deposited checks with horrible handwriting, Bank just asked for my ID.

    Write on the back for deposit only and deposit it. Unless the check writer disputes it it should all be okay

    I don’t think your bank will refuse to deposit the check, if they do just show them his liscense with his full name on it.

    It should be fine. I've had checks written out to me using my nickname that is no where near my first name and it was still accepted.
