Check depositing issues?

Ashley, on January 4, 2012 at 11:02 PM Posted in Married Life 0 9

Married ladies - did anyone have trouble like this depositing checks after the wedding?

http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/business/2012/01/b-of-a-rejects-checks-from-bride-who-kept-last-name/

We didn't have any trouble at Wells Fargo, despite the checks being made out to Mr. & Mrs. DH LastName. I was a little nervous since I'm not on his account (and at the time, still had my maiden name), but WF took them w/o asking any questions.

Seems like BofA is making life difficult again! Glad I don't bank w/ them!

Not-yet-married ladies (and gents) - might want to ask your bank ahead of time about this, just to be sure.

Thanks for sharing - I never would have even thought about this as being a potential issue!

We never had troubles. When the check was made out to MyFirstName HisLastName, the bank just required me to sign once with that name, and once with MyFirstName MyLastName. I don't think this is a consistent policy even at BofA--just some clerk with an overly literal mind.

We were told that if it said Mr. AND Mrs. then we both had to endorse it. If it said Mr. OR Mrs. then either of us could. There was no problem with my maiden name because we had a joint account in my maiden name. I changed my name with the bank after all the checks had been deposited (we deposited all checks before the honeymoon- since we left 3 days after the wedding we had the time-and I changed my name after the honeymoon).

We didn't have any problems although the checks we got had all possible name combinations you can come up with, including Mr. & Mrs. MyFirstName MyLastName. But I'm ready to ditch WF for other reasons :-)

I had no problems with Navy Federal Credit Union, we just both signed the back of the checks. But I was nervous before I deposited them since they were were made out to Mr and Mrs. New last name and I still had my maiden name at the time.

Many, many years ago I ran into this on a tax refund check written out to me & at the time husband. We both signed the check and I took it in to cash - they refused to give me the cash unless my husband was there to agree that I was allowed to have it. So I tried to deposit it and then write a check out of our joint account for cash and the witch teller refused to cash my check - same reason.

I called the bank HQ and got huge appologies but damn I was pissed.
