Cheaper but good quality dresses

Jessica, on November 10, 2021 at 10:20 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 18
Where can I find good quality wedding dresses that won’t break the bank? I’m having trouble finding anything under $1,000. I’m looking for more like under $500 if possible. Tips or help are greatly appreciated!

Check out David's Bridal, Azazie, Lulu's, and also local boutiques! Just be sure to specify your budget ahead of time if you go into a store instead of online.

Also, if you're not opposed to pre-owned dresses, check out Poshmark, Stillwhite, and Facebook marketplace! Often times, these dresses can be brand new with or without tags, as people may have bought a dress and later either changed their mind or cancelled their wedding. Secondhand dress shops are another good place to look.

Check BHLDN for sales! I got my dress from there for $500 (full price was $1,500). It felt very well made and fit like a GLOVE - I didn't even need alterations other than adding a single bustle!

I found my dress at David's Bridal for only $700 or $800. I DEFINITELY wanted my dress to be under 1k for sure. If you book an appointment with David's Bridal, in the survey you let them know what styles you are looking for and what your price range is. A stylist will search what they feel suits you according to the survey you sent them Smiley smile

Maybe she didn’t know, my ex mother in law had no boundaries or manners, she would talk about her husbands size at the dinner table, I would ask her to not wear the dress and then go out shopping with her for the dress

Check out David’s, Azazie and Cocomelody. David’s often has $99 sales and Azazie and Cocomelody have a try on at home program.

If you are in a major city, there is often a wholesale fashion district where you can buy new clothes off the rack dirt cheap, and many wedding dresses and accessories are available.

Azazie, Lulus, and JJ's House have a lot of dress options for under $200-$300, and David's Bridal has gorgeous gowns for under $100!

Also here are two other community discussions with a lot of great recommendations:

Buy a dress online (hoping for < $500, did you try on dress styles in stores first?)

Just to add to the other suggestions, ASOS and Chi Chi London have dresses within that range! And I think I saw that Chi Chi is having a sale and their wedding dresses mostly seem under $300!

I second Azazie. Got my dress from there for $179, and everyone that has seen it says no way it didn't come from a boutique. I try it on at least once a week lol

Agreed with the suggestions above, especially consignment websites. I purchased my pre-owned wedding dress off StillWhite and didn't need any alterations because the previous owner had already had them done to my measurements and added a bustle. So all in all a designer dress that would have cost over $2500 with alterations I got for less than $500 shipped to me.

I also purchased my reception dress on consignment and was able to recoup my cost reselling it after the wedding.

I DO recommend doing some in person shopping if you can. Trying on a bunch of dresses at a local boutique first helped me narrow down my style and made me feel more confident purchasing consignment online (most consignment websites don't allow returns unless the item is not as described, so worth factoring in to your decision about where to purchase). Retail sites like Lulu's, ASOS, Azazie, David's Bridal, and others typically do allow returns, but be sure to read through the return policies before purchase as sometimes there are exceptions (such dresses designed for custom measurements, or final sale items).

The shop I got my dress from has sales 2 or 3 times a year where all sample dresses in the front of the store are $500, so you could see if the shops near you have similar sales, especially with Black Friday coming up!

Also call local shops and find out when they have their discontinued sales and how much dresses cost.

Mine was about $500 at Azazie, not counting all the mail&try-on fees (about $200) and alterations ($150). Shoes were $150, jewelry about $150, clutch for $20, fur shawl for $60.

So even though the dress was only $500, the total cost for the outfit (not counting hair and makeup and all the beauty treatments) was about $1050. All the more reason not to go overboard with the dress. It might take you longer to find something you like in that price range, but you will find something. I tried on over 20 dresses.
