cheap florists?!

future.mrs.jarosz, on October 26, 2015 at 2:53 PM Posted in Planning 0 20

Hello!

Can anyone suggest a good / VERY reasonably priced florist in CT?

i don't care all that much for flowers and dont want to spend alot on them.

i'm doing non-floral centerpieces and dont want boutonnieres.

so it would just be the bouquets..

thanks!!

Honestly, these forums are not great for finding vendors. I suggest using the Wedding Wire Vendor reviews or Google.

Cheap, good, and CT usually don't belong in the same sentence.

In your area (my area...)you'll be looking at about 150.00 for your bouquet and 100ish for your girls. Don'b be shocked if most florists have a minimum for your date; it's prime time.

    Maybe look at supermarkets.

Or www.thumbtack.com. This site lets you request quotes from vendors in your area and we found most of our on there, a lot cheaper than most.

I saved money by using a florist who has their own greenhouse, so they don't have to buy certain flowers from a vendor. Also, using seasonal flowers helps keep cost down.

Thumbtack charges vendors to bid for your business. No one I know uses them. They're cheaper, usually (forgive me mimi) because they're not fantastic.

I found mine on Yelp. Not "cheap" but I feel I got a great deal for what I'm getting, and for it being across the river from DC.

Another idea is to ask the vendors you already have. Sometimes you get discounts for working with preferred vendors, but even if you don't chances are they know some inexpensive (read: less experienced) florists.

I found an inexpensive MUA through my hotel, and I found my reception venue through my ceremony venue. References are the best.

Thumbtack was great for me. Found several vendors on it, along with the WW website. (If I used Thumbtack, I made sure to review them on WW, so the next bride could locate my awesome vendors).

Also, check out your local grocery store. Quite a few national ones have wedding florist and they are lower than your traditional ones.

We just moved to Ohio from Connecticut and I'm with Celia on this one good, cheap and CT just doesn't happen often. If you're on a tight budget and only need bouquets maybe you can look into some wholesale places.

ETA: We lived on the shoreline and a place called Guilford White House was great, but I don't know about their wedding prices.

Future.mrs.jarosz, I'm from CT. Not sure what area your are having you wedding, but you may want to look at one of the local grocery stores- Stop & Shop, Big Y and Shop Rite all have florists that are reasonable. The drawback is that you have to pick the flowers up since they don't deliver or do any setting up. Also, if you're looking for typical flowers, like roses, hydrangeas, etc. they're good. If you're looking for orchids or anything more exotic than your typical grocery store flower don't count on them. They don't dye flowers either.

I have a florist in Shelton whose quote is fairly reasonable- $70 for me and $45 for the bridesmaids. The bouquets consist of stargazer lilies with orchids. Let me know if you want her contact info. I also have an appointment tonight with a florist in Bridgeport. I can let you know how that one goes.

Amanda makes a good point that I personally should have made, lol!

Ask your other vendors. Chances are they've worked with people in all kinds of venues so they know who is high end and down from there. I know I refer four florists in NJ, and they are all over the place dollar wise.

Define "reasonably priced" that means something different to everyone. I spent just under $1000 for my bouquet, 3 bridesmaids, 4 corsages, 9 boutonnières, petals for the aisle and 10 centerpieces. I was able to keep the cost down by being flexible with my flower choices and doing very simple centerpieces. I used Terri Krisavage Wedding & Event Florals she was very good at working with me to provide alternative flowers with a similar look in my budget. She is based out of Rocky Hill Connecticut.

Most florists will work within a budget you give them, and tell you what you can get for that price. For just bouquets you're not spending that much...depending on what a lot means to you of course lol.

I agree with Staci. If you have a budget in mind, the florist will tell you what you can get for that budget. Definitely contact a few florists though, find the right one that is willing to work with you.

I'm in CT and I'm using a woman named Agnes Corr. She does this part time so she doesn't have her own website, but I can message you her phone number if you'd like. She did a few of my FH's cousin's weddings and she gave me the best price out of any florist I spoke with. Her portfolio is really good. Let me know!

Supermarkets are a possibility. Costco and Sam's Club have some wedding packages that might work for you. If you deal with a standard florist, ask about hand-tied bouquets (which are typically cheaper than the wired ones) and local, in-season flowers.
