Charmeuse Dress anyone?

Private User, on August 9, 2015 at 11:06 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8

So after shopping around a bit, I stopped into a small local bridal shop, and tried on a gown I fell in LOVE with. It was not at all what I was originally going for (fit n flare, lace or organza gown)... But I just loved the way this dress fit and felt. I immediately got the total feels that they say you'll get when you find "the one", so I ended up ordering it the next day. However, now I'm wondering if I made the right choice! We're getting married at a historic home, outside overlooking a river and obviously going for a more vintage vibe. The dress def has a vintage glam feel, however it's made of charmeuse, and the more I think about it, the more I'd like it to have a little more flare at the bottom. However, I'm reading that charmeuse/silk-charmeuse is one of the most difficult fabrics to perform alterations on. Just wondering if anyone has any insight into this! Or experience with a silk/silk charmeuse dress! Here's a pic! Let me know what you think!

That is an absolutely gorgeous dress and I think it would look great at your venue type! However, you can always call the shop to ask if a bit more flare can be added. I would think so and I'm sure they've had others ask before.

The dress is beautituful. It has a very elegant look to it. More flare can be added by wearing a crinoline under it. I don't know about alterations but I think it tends to wrinkle a bit easier. I think it looks great and will go well with your venue. Its easy to have second thought once you arent in the moment. I did this with our venue. Loved when we were there booked it and then was like... Maybe I made a mistake. My FH took me back and I just fell in love all over again for with it. Smiley smile

Thanks ladies!! I thought about a crinoline, BUT I know that silk/silk charmeuse shows any little line that you may have underneath, so not sure how that will work, but I'm definitely going to ask when I go back with my mom next weekend. Otherwise, I'm hoping they can just take it in a little above the knee, allowing the bottom to appear more flared out. Or do some more ruching below the hip on the side that has the beaded applique. I have a vision in my head, and it SEEMS like it wouldn't take too much work, but obviously I'm not a seamstress lol! I just hope the fabric allows it!

I think it's beautiful! I agree a crinoline might help, and I think they make more mermaidy ones.

My dress is charmeuse and the alterations are estimated to be $150 for the waist to be taken in, the dress to be shortened and an American Bustle to be added. Your dress is so pretty!

I think the dress is wonderful! I think you found the one! I think once you find the one that you love and makes you feel like a bride, just take all the idea of what you thought you wanted and 'release it to the universe' Smiley smile

I think this is your dress and is beautiful as it is.

Aw thanks ladies! This makes me feel SO much better knowing that alterations ARE possible!! It won't need much since the size fit perfectly, but it may need to be taken in a bit since I just had a baby 3 mos ago and am planning on toning up to get rid of the little bit of tummy that's left. And of course add a bustle. I'm excited to go back to the shop next weekend to talk about it Smiley smile
