Charging stations

MandMHoagland, on June 9, 2017 at 11:12 AM Posted in Planning 0 41

Wondering about charging stations for our reception. Has anyone done this in the past? Went to a wedding last week and guests went back to their hotel rooms to charge their phones. I think it would be a nice perk for the guests.

Depends on your venue - some venues charge for stuff that uses lots of electricity.

If people show up with their phones not fully charged that's their problem. And it's pretty rude to leave a wedding to go charge your phone. That sends a pretty clear message on their priorities. I hope people won't need to be on their phones that much at my wedding.

That's interesting. If your friends and family will be on their phones a lot then it's a nice touch.

Did not have this problem at our wedding. If people needed to charge their phones we didn't know. And really, no one was on their phones long enough to make them die. Everyone was dancing and drinking!

When you go from a wedding straight to cocktail hour and reception people tend to take plenty of pictures and videos. They want to capture their friends enjoying their wedding and having a good time. A friend of mine used her phone a bunch for wedding related items and then needed a charge to call home and check on a kid.

Not sure why. Guests shouldn't be on their phone anyways during wedding.

Id be pretty bummed if everyone was just sitting on their phones during my reception. I don't really see the need for this.

I looked it up to see if it was a thing, I was really surprised. I guess it makes sense now since we are such a technology driven society and there will be lots of pictures and such taken. I have attached some photos I found via my google search.

I like the idea also. Let's face it, people are constantly multi tasking...lol...I'm doing it now. Why not make things easier for your guests. I'm all for anything that makes people more comfortable.

I would not pay for something extra like this to be at my wedding.

Thanks you for the various opinions. As a vendor that would be awful Wendy. I'm sure the brides weren't to happy lol.

Good LORDT. Now as hosts we have to make sure guests cell phones don't drain? Before the advent of technology, what did parents do if they wanted to call to check up on their kids? They found a landline I presume.

    Sheesh.

The next trend is going to be handing out external charging batteries as favors with the bride/groom's hashtag on it.

This is why we want an unplugged wedding.

I find it disgusting that people can't put their phones down and enjoy the company that surrounds them. Absolutely ridiculous.

MFB- That was what I was thinking. In what world would someone think its ok to touch a professional vendors equipment. I really don't get that.

I mean go for it if you feel like your guests would use it...it definitely was not needed at our wedding, but you know your crowd. if you don't want to do a full station--maybe consider putting a charger or two(apple and android) in a basket in the bathrooms with a little sign---we did a small basket with baby wipes, mouthwash, bobby pins, hair ties, a tide pen, safety pins...you could add a little sign like "in case you need something.." next to it. there would not have been a good spot out in our reception area for this, nor would I have wanted to see it.

If I saw someone touching a vendor's equipment if/when I'm needed to help oversee the ballroom to plug in their phone-charger, I'd quietly walk over, unplug their charger with my foot by "tripping", apologize, and then plug in the vendor's equipment instead of their phone charger.

    That shit wouldn't fly here.

We will have a snapchat filter and hashtag for social media as well. We have thought of doing this. I do not think it is going to be that much extra to do so. Our I know most people will have their phones out to video and take pictures during the reception so I think this is a great idea. I know people will not be on their phones during the ceremony and we are asking for no one to have phones out or on during that time. But the reception is a huge party and knowing my friends and family they will be all for capturing little moments themselves.

FSS, can no one unplug for an actual milestone event?

That is truly a sad commentary on society.

This is a hard pass for me. I'm very anti-phone in social settings. I have a photographer for pictures, put your phone down and enjoy the (very expensive) party I've planned with your enjoyment in mind
