Charging guest for a plus one?

Jaquanda, on February 17, 2019 at 9:38 AM Posted in Planning 0 17
Hello everyone! Do you guys think it’s wrong for me to charge guest for a plus one that I do not know? For example if I send out my invites and I already have plus one on the invite they would not have to pay. But if they call and ask to bring some that I have no knowledge of would have to pay.

Don’t do this! If someone asks to bring a plus one who wasn’t invited, simply say no. Explain that your guest list is at its maximum and you have no room for add-on guests.

If you don't give someone a plus one when you and out the invitations, then just tell them that you can't accommodate anyone else. Don't ask people to pay.

Since you didn’t give them a plus one, you can tell them no and that you don’t have room for another person etc. If you do allow it, do not ask to pay. I think they would give you more money anyways because they are bringing someone, people usually give 100-150 per person.

So rude, so very rude. If the plus one isn't a significant other, just tell them that the invitation is only for them. If you didn't invite their SO, apologize and tell them they are absolutely welcome to bring that person

Don't do this. If someone tries to bring a plus-one you haven't already given them just tell them no.

I absolutely think that's wrong. Like others said if they decide they get a plus one just tell them you cant accommodate the extra guests and the invite was for only them.

Just say the invite was only for them. If they are being extremely pushy and not respecting your wishes, tell them each extra person is $1,000 cash due next week to shut them up. People get way too obnoxious with who they can and cannot bring. Not sure if that is happening here, but I have had a sprinkling of that. Good luck!

Don’t do this!!! Just tell them that you have no extra room for plus ones. Don’t even mention money.

No, just tell them that you are space limited. I had a friend who charged for a plus one but that was AFTER she told the man that he could not bring a plus one due to space limitations. He brought a date, not a gf, anyway and then he paid her the money.

I wouldn’t charge my guests to bring a plus one that I don’t know. I’d just tell them no & unfortunately my budget and venue only allows for so many guests.

If they didn't get a plus one designated by the host aka you/FH, they don't get a plus one... Just because other people are rude doesn't mean you need to be! You can't ask them to pay for a guest you just tell them "i'm sorry, our wedding is our nearest/dearest and our venue only accommodates the guests we invited".

It would honestly horrify me to ask a guest to pay for anything at my wedding. If you invite someone and they have a significant other, you need to invite them, that's just how it works. Even if you don't know them. If they are single and don't have a SO, just don't give them a plus and if they ask tell them you have no room.

No, I do not think you should charge for them. If you don't want to give someone a plus one then don't. Make sure you state on the invite that this is only for that one guest and no extras.

I would also say to make sure you do consider +1 etiquette. If they are in a long-term and committed relationship (married, dating for years, living together) it's ideal to invite them. If you absolutely cannot afford to invite plus ones then just make sure you let the invitee know that it is just for them.

I do feel you on this though. I'd love to not have too many extra people at our wedding (There's about 10 plus 1's that I've never even seen) but it's just polite to invite them along if you have the budget to do to. Especially for those traveling.

I wouldn't charge them but....... I believe in being a little more direct than the etiquette police will allow. If a guest calls and asks to bring an additional guest, simply say no. It is a wedding, it is your wedding and YOU are not obligated to allow people to attend because it is "polite".
