Changing the fit of an a-line dress

Katie, on January 9, 2015 at 11:19 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 4

I recently purchased the dress pictured below. I still really love it.. but I have decided would like it to be a more fitted. I attached a photo of the dress on me with my mom pulling it closer to my body. Is this a reasonable alteration? Have any of you had the fit of a dress changed? If so, please share photos! Smiley smile Thank you!

I think it is a do-able alteration. It might not be cheap but it should be do-able. I saw someone make my A-Line dress into a more fitted dress, almost mermaid dress before so i don't see why they could not take out a bunch of fabric and sew it back. There might be a seam somewhere but it would be under the top layer. You never know unless you ask. I would just show the picture and see what they say...

Ha I'm having this same issue. I bought the 9V9665 dress from DB and I think it looks much better fitted. My fitting is Tuesday but I'm going in tomorrow to see if they could alter it and how much it would be. .. Do you have a slip on underneath?

I had an A-line dress and my seamstress altered it into more trumpet-looking. She took my dress in the whole way down and then took it quite a bit below my hips. My alterations were $200 all together and i also got a bustle.

I'm mobile so I can't post pics, but let me see if I can link to my posts about my alterations.

    Edited to add links:

That's a beautiful dress. If you'd be happy with taking some of the tulle out, that would probably be an easy alteration, but if it will be anything more complicated, you're basically talking about redesigning the whole dress! Depending on how much you paid for the dress, it might be cheaper to just buy another dress.
