Changing shoes and dress length?

Katy, on April 5, 2019 at 9:48 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 4
So I’m planning on wearing a pair of heels for the ceremony then changing into some keds for the reception. I’m getting my alterations started next week but I was wondering if changing shoes will cause me to trip all over my dress? Does anyone have any experience?

I don't have experience with this, but I have read a lot about others experiences. I was planning on doing something similar, but when I did some research, unless the shoes are similar in height, (i.e. a short heel and chunky flats) the dress is going to look off somewhere. Some people either lived with a slightly shorter looking dress for photos and the ceremony, and some had to try not to trip over the front of the dress during the reception. It makes perfect sense, but I was hoping you could some kind of alteration/bustle to handle that issue. It seems like that's not the case. I ended up finding a super comfortable pair of wedge pumps that aren't super high heels that I feel confident I can wear the whole night. It's not necessarily perfect, but it'll be ok with me.

I was planning on doing this with a pair of kitten heels and Kate Spade Keds, and ultimately decided to just wear the Keds the whole day Smiley winking I know I'm no help lol I didn't want to be bothered with heels at all.

I went from 4 inch Badgley Mischa heels to a pair of Chuck Taylors - so yeah, I feel ya. lol. Obviously you will have your dress altered based on the higher of the heel (unless you're going for the shortened look, then I don't think you'll have this problem regardless). So naturally, you'll have to navigate your skirt a little bit when you change shoes, but it's not that huge of a deal. I actually thought it was easier to walk in the flats and occasionally catch the dress with my toe than it was to walk in the heels and be worried I'd catch the lining of the dress on the heel! You trade one issue for another Smiley smile

But I wouldn't worry too much about it - and if you have any worry left, just mention it to your seamstress. They may be able to give some tips.

I'm doing the same thing - AND planning on doing a skit/swordfight during my ceremony.

Honestly? A little concerned. But I'm also going to ask if we can create a loop or something to help me lift up the front when I need to.
