Changing Name after Marriage on Gmail

I'm planning on changing my name after getting married and have been doing some research on making sure I can have a Gmail account that will have my new name. Basically, I'm just trying to find out how to switch Gmail addresses (without losing my contacts and emails).

Does anyone know how to do this?

I created a new gmail account and forwarded the mail from my other account.

I had the same problem, but a friend recommended a very useful software for this process for me called CloudGopher. It's such a hassle to move to a new name and I'm not sure why google makes it so hard. Forwarding mail is one thing, but if you're an organization freak like me, this was way easier: https://www.cloudgopher.com/changing-gmail-after-marriage Hope it helps!

I dont think you can. You can create a new email address.

I'd create a new one and have your old one automatically forwarded like Mrs. Librarian said

I think I'll create a new gmail with my married name, and keep the old one for my "spam" and online shopping. If I was smart, I would have set up a dummy account long ago to use when I buy things online. But I was 19 and naive. So now, I get about 100 daily emails from stores I accidentally subscribed to (e.g., groupon, Old Navy, Banana, Macys, etc). My new email will hopefully be free of that.
