Changing my shoes before the first dance

Patty, on September 25, 2016 at 11:43 AM Posted in Planning 0 15

Short version: I want to change my shoes for the first dance. How do I adjust my wedding timeline so there is a pause between the grand entrance and the first dance so I can change my shoes?

Long version:

I have these beautiful and entirely impractical bridal shoes that I am wearing for the ceremony and grand entrance (you can see my shoes with my dress). However, I can't dance in them. I want to change my shoes before the first dance into dance shoes, but the original time was to go from grand entrance straight into first dance.

Do you have any suggestions as to ways to re-organize the timeline so I have some sort of time where I can change my shoes?

Thank you!

Have a bridesmaid holding them on the side for you, take 10 seconds to change your shoes and done Smiley laugh

Have a few pictures taken first then whole they are being taken get those shoes off and put the others on... Or have your husband do it by just sitting in the chair before the dance

I feel like if I do that, everyone will be watching me change my shoes which is awkward (my shoes have straps on then which unhook so are quick to change but a little more involved than just slipping shoes on and off). What if I want to reorganize so I'll be sitting at my table for a little bit before the first dance and after the grand entrance? Thanks!

Trust me, you won't be sitting anytime soon. Just slip them off. Not a big deal. I wouldn't adjust a timeline for a 10-second shoe change.

Have your new shoes under the head table and sit down after the grand entrance - maybe schedule your toasts for that time so you can have a few minutes to change your shoes before the first dance.

Maybe change them before the grand entrance?

The issue is that I have a high-low dress for the reception (that has a bit of a wow factor) and the shoes that I'm wearing to the ceremony are much cuter than my dance shoes (which are nice but not beautiful) so I'm trying to figure out if I can still wear my ceremony shoes for my grand entrance and figure out an inconspicuous time to swap them before the first dance. I like the idea of having them under the table but I'm not sure how I would rearrange the timeline to make a reason to sit at the table. Maybe making toasts early like someone else suggested, but I'm not sure if that throws off flow?

Approximately how long does it take you to get out of your shoes?

I guess I just don't understand how this is an issue. Walk in, walk over to your table, grab a sip of something, change shoes, and walk to the dance floor.

Your DJ can direct everyone's attention to the dance floor while you quickly change your shoes. That way hopefully you won't have everyone staring at you, if that's what you're worried about?

Omg, you are overthinking this so hard. Take one pair off and put the other one on. Leave them at your seat and move on with your life.

Yes you are way over thinking this. I did not have "change shoes" or "pee" in my timeline. Timeline is for big things like, entrance, dinner begins, dance, etc. I would either figure out how to handle them for 2 more minutes (if you're not doing a choreographed dance I bet you can sway in them for two minutes or change them before your grand entrance. Everyone's attention will be on you in the grand entrance so it going to be tough to "discreetly" change but as PPs have said it shouldn't take more than 30 secs if you have your other shoes set out

OP: "how do I fit changing my shoes into the timeline?"

PPs: "change before entrance, change after dance or do toasts before your dance-- you're over thinking"

OP: "but I don't want to change anything about my timeline or have people watch me put on my shoes or move the toasts, so what should I do?"

Take people's advice OP, that's what you should do.

When I was MOH the bride and I traded shoes it took less than 20 seconds. You're overthinking.
