changing email address after married?

Ashlee, on May 8, 2014 at 10:28 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 21

My email address is my first and last name, i was wondering what to do after marriage. ive had this email address since i was like 19! so i get emails from literally everything and its stuff that i still like to read. is there a way you can change your email name but still have it linked to the last one?

Yeah, you can. I don't know who you have but Gmail offers to have emails from one email to another forwarded.

I will change my email address as well but am trying to figure out to what. first name new last name is already taking, as well as anything else that would look professional. I really don't want to add any numbers :/

I'm in the same boat. I think I'm going to create the new address, but keep the old one for awhile. I'll slowly notify family, friends, companies, etc. until I'm not getting things on the old account. You also could put an automatic outgoing message notifying the sender of your new email address.

I'm not changing mine - I've had mine for for a good 15 years. Like @Paris said, it's just an e-mail address.

I haven't even thought of this! Glad you posted it. If I want to change it sounds like it shouldn't be a problem since I have gmail....

Gmail allows you to change the name that is displayed, but not the actual email address. I'll be doing that.

Hi Ashlee, Yahoo has the same feature as Gmail, where you can add an email address to attach to your old one, so basically, you get email from both addresses into one inbox. That's what I did.

If you don't want to get a brand new email, gmail allows you to change the name that shows up but doesn't let you actually change the *********@*****.***.

I got a new email address because my old one was my first and last name, besides being a college email. I just have my old one on auto-forward, and whenever I give my email out now I give out my new one. Eventually I will probably delete the old one, but I'm not going to do a dramatic transfer.

I have set mine up already. Gmail and Yahoo both forward to the new one.

As far as I know you can't change the e-mail address itself. You should make a new e-mail with your new name, but have your old name forward the e-mail to your new one. That way people who use the old one can still contact you, but then you give out your new name e-mail.

My email address doesn't use my real name (I never use my name as my email address), so no need to change it.

As other's have stated, just have it forwarded to your new email address. I have several email address that filter to my main email now...Gmail is good for this. : )

    Good luck!
