Changing dresses at the reception

Alicia, on September 20, 2019 at 8:29 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 19
Hi lovely brides! I wanted to know what your thoughts are of changing dresses at your reception? My fiancé says go for it and i on the other hand am contemplating about it...

That’s pretty common now so if it’s something you want to do go for it. I bought a dress to change into but never ended up changing. I decided I wanted to stay in my wedding dress all night.

It’s one of the trends people are doing now. I personally think it’s a waste of money, and don’t understand it. It’s all in what you want and what your budget can do.

I’m not spending $2500 on my dress to wear it for 30 minutes, but some people are all about it. It’s just personal preference.

I agree with Caytlyn. I don't see anything wrong with having a reception dress, but this is the ONE day I get to wear an extravagant white dress and I'm gonna wear that sucker all the way to the hotel Smiley xd Needless to say, I won't be having a reception dress lol

I am debating on if I want to change or not. I’m spending 2k on my dress and want to get the most out of it. At the same time I want to be comfortable at the reception as well so I’ve been looking on Lulus for something nice and inexpensive. I’ll decide the closer I get to the big day

I think it depends! Before I picked my dress I expected to get an a line or ball gown so I was planning on changing into a short dress after food and the dances and all of that. But the dress I actually got is so light and comfortable so I’ll be staying in it! I think it depends on what makes you most comfortable.

No way. I absolutely loved my dress. It wasn't super comfortable, but I didn't notice throughout the night I was having such a good time.

I think it's a huge waste of money, but that's just my opinion. I spent a lot of money on my wedding dress and having two dresses sounds crazy to me. Thousands of dollars to wear them for a few hours. I could think of 100 other things to buy instead of a second dress.

I bought 1 dress I loved and wore it all night.

I changed (hubby & I changed into pirate outfits for our theme). I wore my dress for first look, ceremony, post pics then changed during cocktail hour after we escorted guests into the reception.

I will be changing only because my dress is hemmed to 5 inch heels and I don't want to have to wear those all night. I will change before the dance floor opens for the reception and then back into my wedding dress for our sparkler send off

I made sure I had a comfortable dress so I'm definitely not changing. I know the popularity is increasing on having two different dresses, but I don't see the need.

I don't want to change out of my dream dress. But I will have another white dress upstairs as a just in case. The more I think about it the more I don't want to change though.

I think it's actually a good idea because you can be in a shorter or less bulkier dress and makes it easier to move in. However it's something to consider for your budget

I am debating this also! I had a very specific vision of the dress I see myself getting married in, and from the dresses my fiancé has pointed out it seems like he has the exact same vision as me. However I recently fell in love with a dress that is the complete OPPOSITE of my original vision, and pretty much everything my FH has said he hates in a dress! I love the dress and it’s super comfortable. So I’m thinking of getting the big extravagant dress for the ceremony and then changing into the other dress for the reception and after-reception partying on Bourbon Street. I know it sounds crazy to spend that much money on not 1 but 2 dresses that i’ll only wear once (one for only an hour max), but I feel like I would always regret not getting one of them.

I just bought my dress yesterday! So excited!

BUT i will be going dress shopping with my mom next month (I came across this dress that blew me away and that was a sample $400 from original $2500 I had to buy it with nobody there). And if we come across something that trumps that dress and feeling I got, I might end up with the 2nd dress I will use for either reception or ceremony. Will all depend.

Also, I am playing with the idea of doing a fun first dance that will go from a slow romantic song into something real groovy and that would require a dress change for sure. The dress I bought is quite stiff and limits the moves a bit Smiley smile

I made sure to get a gown that was comfortable. It's a fit and flare and not super heavy and made of stretch fabric. I also made sure to have the hem custom for my short 5'2 frame in flats-I'm not wearing heels at all, FH likes me tiny plus we are getting married in sand, so no stilettos. I still want to get an overskirt for the ceremony to make it into a ballgown look but can't justify the price, plus I love my train.

I’m wearing the dress that my mom and grandma wore so it’s old and I just had to get altered! I’m so excited to wear it because it is special but the material is old and it’s super tight. I didn’t want to spend the whole night in it uncomfortable because I want to be able to dance! And I plan on drinking so I don’t want to spill or get it dirty... so I am changing into a reception dress! But I found it on amazon for like $25 🙈 so not much more money!! It’ll feel nice to change into something more comfortable!

I think if you can afford it, it's definitely a unique option! But I don't think it's something you need to break the bank on. The biggest advantage imo is that your ceremony dress will be hemmed to your shoes, so if you want to take them off / put a different pair on, it may be too long.
