Changing bodice lining

Danielle, on April 2, 2021 at 11:35 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 3

Hi All,

I purchased this dress by Justin Alexander in January. I tried it on unlined at the store. I decided to purchase it with the bodice line. The outline shown in grey is where the lining will be. Since I never tried it on with a lined bodice, I am having second thoughts. When it comes in, do you know if its possible for a seamstress to remove the lining and make the bodice unlined again?

If you find a great seamstress, anything is possible! But really, if all they are truly doing is adding a lining, it should be doable for a seamstress to remove it or replace it with a different lining. But I don't know all the specifics of how the company is adding the lining, so unless I was holding it I couldn't tell you with 100% certainty. (But I sew a little and I feel like linings are something that are relatively strait forward for a professional to add/take away/replace)

So I don’t know much about all the magic a seamstress can work, but I faced a similar situation where the sample gown I tried on was unlined and I wanted to order with a lining. My bridal store was able to find a piece of cloth in the same color as my gown, and they just slipped it up into the gown once I had it on so I could see what it would look like lined. If that would ease your mind, maybe you could go try on the sample again with the fabric underneath to make sure you like it?

Depending on how the dress is constructed, they may be able to remove the lining!

I wouldn't get too far ahead of yourself though - wait and see how the dress looks when it comes in first! ❤️ Then you can start talking alterations. 😉
