Changing a zipper back to a corset

McKenzie, on August 20, 2021 at 11:15 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 5
Am I able to change most wedding dresses into a corset back from a zipper? Is the cost pretty pricey? I have dress appointments scheduled but they aren’t for a while and I just don’t want to get there and be in shock when I find out that it’s not possible. My wedding isn’t until next October and I’m worried about weight gain/loss and a zipper not being a good option to go with, and our budget for a dress is $1,000 so if alterations are going to be expensive… what our best route to go would be.

Ask your seamstress! They will let you know if it is possible or not depending on their experience of transforming dresses like that or based on how your dress is put together. So those two factors will play in if you want to change it up from a zipper to a corset. I am unsure on how much it would be, but if you are booking through a local seamstress they should be more cheaper than if you were to go through David's Bridal that's for sure.

Unless it is a fragile or sheer fabric, changing from a zipper or buttons to a corset back is almost always a possibility, in my experience (mostly from working with party princess gowns) You can also ask your consultant when you go shopping and they might have more insight as well

I ordered a corset kit on amazon for $24, used a seam ripper to remove my zipper, and hand stitched in the corset after watching a few youtube videos. My dress is tulle and cotten/polyester. I wanted to make sure the top fit perfect from top to bottom so it didnt slide down!

My seamstress is charging around 150 to change from a zipper to corset.
