Change the Date

Elizabeth, on August 11, 2020 at 5:11 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6
So we just sent our invitations out about 2.5 weeks ago. We have received some RSVPS already but we are thinking we may have to postpone. Our date as of now is 10-8-20 but we may have to move to 10-3-21. Any advice on change the date etiquette? Do we send change the dates with our wedding website link and call it a day? Or should we send reminders next year around this time just to make sure? I'm not sure what to do!

Send change the dates now and then new invitations 6-8 weeks before the new date. New invitations and RSVPs are a necessity since most people will have different availability within a year.

I am sending out Change The Date cards for my new date in 2022, and will likely either skip new Save The Dates and just send invitations in 2022, or will send new Save The Dates in early 2022 and new invites as well. Since your new date is in 2021, I think if you send Change The Date cards now, you won't need to send new Save The Dates later on, only new invitations.

I definitely don't want to send new invitations ours were custom made and cost $2,000. They were perfect and I dont want to spend that kind of money again for something people are going to throw away twice.

Understandable, but there are cheaper options. There's really no way around having people RSVP again. Just because someone is or isn't available for your original date, doesn't mean that it will be the same in a year.

I think you still have to send invitations next year. If you don't send anything you'll end up having to do a ton of follow up, and it would be annoying to receive a "don't forget to RSVP" card to a wedding you never got an invitation for (this year's invitations don't count). You don't have to have a full invitation suite though. A simple flat invitation card with online RSVP instructions or one of those all-in-one things would be perfectly fine.
