Change the Date Announcements

Kimberly, on June 8, 2020 at 2:15 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 1 28

How did everyone announce their new wedding date that was affected/postponed/cancelled due to coronavirus? Did you do something cute related to the situation? For example I've seen some couples using toilet paper or masks and such. For us we're just announcing it with a simple Change the Date photo with us holding a sign with out new wedding date. I'm going from being a spring bride to a summer one! Just have to take everything with stride and be positive Smiley smile

Did any of you send out new invites? I've been getting comments from family members and friends saying sending out new invites isn't necessary. What do you all think?

So far I've started a Facebook event page that includes all my guests with the new wedding date and a link to our wedding website with all the information. I've also personally reached out to all our guests to inform them of our new date.

I'd love to hear from any brides on what they're doing Smiley heart

That’s a cute photo! We sent these out via text message, and updated our website with all new information. We hadn’t ordered invites for the original date yet, so we just ordered our invitations today for our new date. I think if I had already sent invites out, I’d still send a new one but switch to an online RSVP to save a little time and money. Good luck with your new date!

I love your text notice! The corona is cheeky and also like let's drink and party. Summer bride as well! What season was your original date?

I love this picture! It's very cute.

I'm not in this position, but I would definitely be sending change the date cards to keep the formality there. But, we're having a very formal wedding, so if you aren't worried about the formality then that's not necessary.

Thank you! Our original date was May 9th. It was a beautiful sunny day but pretty darn cold in Wisconsin, so hopefully our new August date will be a gorgeous summer day!

Looks great, and it sounds like you've thought it through.

Everyone is kind of making this up as they go along, so whatever works for your guests... is what is appropriate!

We haven’t officially postponed our October wedding. But it’s very possibly on the horizon. We’re having destination wedding in Vegas. So to keep in line with the “gambling” vibe, we’ll send scratchers. They’re customizable... So we’re going to write: “Bride & Groom are (STILL) getting married”. The paragraph in the middle will change too and the cards will have a “vintage” design, like our original STDs (to continue the hint about our venue’s style). We’re also sending a heart punched penny with each scratcher.

So we ordered some change the date cards from Minted. They went out just when invites would have went out. We chose a card that was a blend of classy with a little humor. We have gotten some positive feedback on them. I agree with another poster that this is uncharted waters and there isn't really a wrong way to communicate a postponed wedding in a pandemic!

We're still getting married on our original date but we're postponing the reception to next year. We're sending these new magnets out with a note to announce the change. Change the Date Announcements 5
We hadn't sent out invitations and we're postponing by a year so we'll definitely send out new invitations next year, but I think it's a good idea to send them anyway. You can always send a postcard invitation and do online RSVPs if you're okay with being casual. Or, since your new date is fairly soon anyway, you could ask people to RSVP online when you send the change the date cards.

What a darling idea! That's so clever and fits with the theme. I'm from Nevada and the casinos got the greenlight to open up last week so I bet if you do decide to have your destination wedding everything will be fine by then.

That's true and most guests who were aware of the original wedding date are aware of why the wedding had to be postponed and a little tongue and cheek humor is cute.

Yes, very true. Even just looking at some of the other discussions on here there is really no wrong or right way to go about the situation; it's whatever works.

We were canceled in March and we’re not sure about our rescheduled November date so we haven’t sent out anything with our new date. We let our guests know the wedding was canceled days prior by FB post, texts, and phone calls.

Ooops!! IDK what happened. That was supposed to say:

Thanks! I noticed that the hotels out there are beginning to reopen. But between the pandemic, states opening earlier (and less safely) then we expected and now the protests and all of the intermingling going on there… FH and I decided that postponing is best for a number of reasons. We’d rather wait to see if the numbers are going to spike again. Also 100% of our guests have to travel to Vegas and, since we’re asking them to travel, we to host the fun wedding weekend that we planned (and we also want to dance and interact with fewer restrictions). Comfortably doing that in the next four months doesn’t seem very feasible. So we’ll try it again next October and I’m actually more pleased with that plan than I thought I’d be.
