Change of date cards???

Kim, on May 29, 2017 at 7:43 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 5

My fiancé and I booked our wedding for next march and sent save the date cards last month -early but more than 75% of our guest list are out of state and will be traveling so we wanted to give them advanced notice.

Well- we recently realized that our date falls during a major tech festival in town and flights are more than double the normal price and hotels will not reserve blocks. So, we've decided to change the date by a few weeks (and venue since original venue is completely booked- goodbye deposit!)

I am hoping for advice on how to handle this. I would like to send a new save the date out asap to let people know before the start to plan their travels. Any suggestions on etiquette for this- do I simply send a new card or do we include a little note on why we've changed it? Has any one had to do something similar or were a guest to a wedding where the date changed? Any advice would be appreciated Smiley smile

Ouch, i think maybe an ew card would ok but i have never come across this. You did send them out a little on the early side but you also should be ok re-sending a new card out.

Triple check that you are good with the date & have a venue.

If you have a wedding website, update that with the new info.

Send out 'revised' STDs with the new date & a simple apology/explaining that it was due to a scheduling conflict with another local event/changed to be more affordable for the guests (something to let them know you have the guests in mind).

I would make the new STD a bit humorous.

    "I DO TAKE TWO"

please note the change of date!

My friend had to change her date due to a family member being deployed- she followed up with her guests personally and then sent new save the dates with the new date highlighted.

I realize that this thread is a few years old, however with everything going on, there are so many people that unfortunately have to postpone their wedding days. I had to postpone my wedding last year due to family medical issues, and I used MagnetStreet to make my Change the Date cards: https://www.magnetstreet.com/shop/change-the-date-cards

Postponing your wedding is extremely stressful, especially when it's because of something that is completely out of your control. It's important that you keep your guests informed of what your plans are. Obviously right now we don't know when things will get back to normal, so Change the Date cards might be a little premature. Stay safe and healthy, and everything will be okay!
