Change from venue to backyard ?

Katie, on March 17, 2019 at 6:37 PM Posted in Planning 0 8
Hi ladies ! Has anyone changed their wedding location from a venue to a backyard ?

We we bought a house and we have almost an acre of land. I’ve been wanting to have a backyard wedding. But I’m unsure about how or what to start with planning

How many guests are you thinking of having? Having a wedding at home can be intimate and in some ways economical but if you're having a larger wedding it might not be the easiest. The situations arrive of bathrooms (renting port a potties), a space to host the reception (tent/dance floors), renting all the equipment (tables, chairs, linens, china, etc), additionally you'll need space for parking for your guests. It sounds like a nice idea but when you get down to the details it can end up becoming more difficult than holding it in another physical location. Do your research and do what is best for your big day and good luck with your planning!

Haha, so we wanted to have ours at a state park originally but the scheduling was funky so we decided to have it in our backyard... then we decided to buy a different house so the venue changed once more. Now we're doing a nice backyard wedding on the 2 acres. So I am excited.

That sounds amazing! A back yard wedding would be a dream wedding. Are you having a small wedding? If so it would he perfect.
If you are having a very large wedding it might be very overwhelming and the cost may be very large with all the tables/chairs you may need to rent

I think it would depend on your budget and number of guests. My FH and I was planning on having our wedding and reception at his brothers house with land. The cost of all the extra rental stuff tables, chairs, tents, generators, coolers, fans, dance floor, etc, etc, etc. It ended up not being cost effective for us personally. Congratulations on your new home. Maybe have a small house warming party

And the toilets too, if you have only 1-2 bathrooms and 20+ guests.

Had to do this. We ended up starting with researching local laws and making a mock up of the reception set up. This way we would know the layout, available space, and potential issues that could arise. Then we started hiring vendors. Now we are just planning out the decor, creating mockups and purchasing it. Lots of work!

My cousin had his wedding on our family's ranch in Colorado. It cost quite a bit of money to rent a tent, chairs, tables, generators, lighting, extra bathrooms, etc. Do you have enough room for parking? Will neighbors be okay with the noise that late? Do you have a backup plan for bad weather? Do you have a kitchen big enough for caterers?
