Champagne Suggestions

Erin, on June 27, 2017 at 1:43 PM Posted in Planning 0 17

We have a full open bar with our venue although, besides the champagne toast, they do not offer champagne. My Grandma only drinks champagne, for this we checked and our venue OK-ed us to bring in a case. We also decided to have our signature cocktail champagne with cotton candy (our venue is on the merry-go-round pavilion). I rarely buy champangne unless for a special occasion and will get a fairly nice bottle, although since we will be buying a case or 2 I’m hoping to find a more cost effective champagne. Any suggestions?

What price range are you looking to spend?

It's not a champagne, but prosecco is pretty much the same thing from a different region. I really like Lamarca and you can buy it by the case at Costco.

I really don't know how affordable a decent bottle of champange is. I would like to keep the case under $200, if possible...

What type of champagne does your grandma drink? Barefoot is surprisingly decent and usually on sale for around 6-7/bottle. We bought 12 magnum bottles of Korbel Brut (the dryest one available). Those were just under $20 but it's 1.5L. You could also consider Prosecco, I was between Korbel and La Marca Prosecco. La Marca was on sale for around 8/9 last week at Kroger in SoCal.

If you're doing $200 for the case that's about $16 per bottle. Mumm Napa is good and around that price point.

Then you will want to get sparkling wine or prosecco. See Costco

My everyday is Frexinet (usually under 11) but most prosecco is very affordable too.

Honestly, most people don't really know that much about sparkling so spending a lot on it is kind of a waste, especially if you're going to float cotton candy in it (an idea I think is really cute, by the way). I might spring for a great bottle for your grandma though!

I"d also sign up for splash.com They regularly have cases of sparkling, and I bet they'd be just fine for your purposes.

Awesome! Thanks for all the suggestions. Didn't want to buy a poor quality case of champagne (sparkling wine) but don't want to spend much more than I need to. Unfortunately, no Trader Joe's around me have a wine store. I'll go to BJ's and see if they have any of these brands.

Unsure what kind my Grandma likes, thinking it's out of my price range (for a case at least). Maybe I could get a couple nicer bottles and ask the bartender to serve it to those who order champagne without the cotton candy. @Celia, thanks! I'll check it out

Unfortunately, there's only 1 Trader Joe's wine store in NY and it's in Manhattan. NY state law does not allow for 1 person/corporation to own more than 1 liquor store. Crazy law. All the Stew Leanords Wine Stores are individually owned. TJ's wine store prices are really great.

Mumm Napa is about $16 per bottle. It's very good. Gloria Ferrer has some great sparkling wines also... that's what I'm going with.

@firstneat interesting. I wondered why they didn't have more wine stores nearby. My fiance works in the city, but considering having to find parking nearby union square and then carry a case of champagne, might be more trouble than it's worth. I used to shop in that store all the time too, it's a mad house! likely they might not even have what we need.

Looks like frexinet is an all around fav, gonna check it out!
