Champagne or wine? For toasting

Brittny, on December 7, 2016 at 12:05 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 22

Not sure what to toast with for the reception. Is it typical to do a champagne toast? Or can it be wine since many of my family members prefer wine? I was also thinking of having sparkling grape juice for the young people and anyone who may not want wine or champagne. What is the best non alcoholic beverage for those under 21 to toast with?

I was just thinking about that yesterday! I have some people who abstain from alcohol and was curious if they have an alternative for then.

Its usually a huge waste to pour champagne for everyone, unless its included. A majority of people will take one sip and put it down. Plus, usually for a large amount of people you will use a low quality champagne/sparkling wine, and it will not taste very good anyways.

I'm team use whatever glass you have at the moment.

I've never been to a wedding that had a legit champagne toast. People usually just toast with whatever drink they have. But if you are going the route of having a specific drink for the toast then I would say champagne for sure and sparkling juice for the young ones.

Another vote for toasting with whatever is already in your glass!

Either one as long as it is decent quality. Don't have $5 a bottle "champagne" just because it is sparkling.

Makes sense! I never thought about that because a toast isn't included in our package. But using whatever is already in front of them makes sense with having champagne to toast as the option

Champagne is the most common toasting beverage, but most people will be perfectly happy toasting with whatever is in their glass.

There are logistics involved in doing an actual champagne toast- unless it's included in your package you'll need to rent champagne glasses and possibly hire extra staff to pour/pass the champagne so everyone has a glass in hand at the right time. We are technically doing two toasts: one after dinner with speeches/whatever is in your glass and a champagne toast at midnight because it's NYE and we really wanted to toast to the new year. But at most recent weddings I've been to we've just toasted with whatever we were drinking. 5-10 mins before, you can ask the DJ to make an announcement asking guests to refresh their drinks for a toast

Same for kids, they can toast with whatever non alcoholic beverage they are drinking. Pinterest has cute ideas with milk & cookies or sparkling grape juice but that's an unnecessary added expense

Personally, I'd go for champagne. But you can also opt for presseco or spumonti.

I'm thinking of doing non alcoholic Sidra (like apple cider but more acidic like champange) for everyone

A high quality sparkling wine is better than cheap champagne

Our venue was a winery and no outside alcohol was allowed. We toasted with a really pretty blush wine.

I'm a champagne drinker, but many are not. They can toast with whatever they have.

It kills me that most of these venues pour the toast before you're even in the room, so it's nice and warm and flat.

I'd rather toast with what is already in my glass!

We're doing the same as Sarah M. Champagne isn't included in our package, and we have to cut somewhere. I haven't missed champagne at the last couple weddings I've been at, so we decided at an extra expense we're not doing.

I'm having my guests toast with whatever they have in their hand. That way I know it won't go to waste.

Go with whatever is in hand. We skipped the champagne toast at our wedding and went to a wedding a few weeks later that had it. The champagne was already poured at the table when we arrived, which H took as an indication it was okay to drink right away. By the time the toast happened, it was room temp and less bubbly, and everyone took a sip then pushed it aside.
