Champagne on ice?

Candace, on August 18, 2021 at 11:36 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 8
Our venue is an old dance hall with no room in the bar fridges to keep 20 bottles of champagne cold. How do you keep your champagne cold or do you? I'm considering a table just for the champagne. Should I put them in ice buckets? And did you set out the champagne glasses (disposable) all together and have guests pick one up before the toast? Or did you set them at the guest tables. We're having buffet style and no plate settings.

I would put the glasses on the guest tables with an ice bucket on each table. That way people don't have to get up to get one or more.

I agree with Samantha! Smiley smile Put it in an ice bucket. Maybe put two at a table if the table seats a lot of people. If there is only 6-8 people then maybe just 1 so it doesn't go to waste. And also consider those who do and do not drink. This will help if you have seating arrangements. Maybe you can do champagne in one bucket and then one with sparkling cider (for those who do not drink and those who are underage)?

Good idea. They can serve themselves. Are champagne bottles easy to open?

I don't actually know about that one! Not particularly hard to open but you don't want corks flying all over the place lol. Maybe have them popped and recorked ahead of time? Not sure!

Great ideas! The tables are long and fit about 12 people. So maybe one bottle of champagne on each end and a bottle of sparkling cider. Now to source some ice buckets...

I love the idea of long tables! Just look at your guest list and see who drinks vs those who do not. It will determine how much champagne to leave at the tables. You also have those who will pour multiple times or do one big one lol. So, if you have one table where everyone drinks then you might need three. One for each end and the other in the middle. And for buckets maybe you can get cute ones from hobby lobby (I think they may have their summer sale going on?) and then just fill them with ice?

Champagne must be chilled before opening, at least 30mins. Ice buckets should be half ice, half water. You will also need a serving cloth with each bucket as the bottle will be slippery and the condensation from the bucket will soak the table. I would have the staff pop the cork before placing them on tables. No one wants a black eye. In retrospect, it might also be more economical to rent a large refrigerator for the evening.
