Champagne glass escort cards bad idea?

FutureDr.Pepper, on September 28, 2016 at 10:23 AM Posted in Planning 0 9

So I found these adorable escort cards. They are little butterflies that you put on the edge of a champagne glass, and they have the guest's name and table number. My question is, how practical are these? Do you think people will be careful in grabbing their glass, lets say its in the back of the row, or will people knock them all over and they table cards will be ruined? I've seen a lot of these wine glass escort cards on the market, but is it a bad idea having 120 glasses of champagne on a table and expecting people to not spill them?? Maybe designate someone to be by the table and pass them out as guests approach the table? Thank you for your thoughts!

That's a worry, but also... what about how long it will take people to file in, and find their glass? if you have a large guest list, the champagne will go flat. Also, what about under age people and/or those who don't drink?

ETA: I do think its a beautiful setup though. I love the butterflies...

I think I would worry less about knocking and spilling. Those champagnes need to be pour long before the guests can get to it and I hate drinking flat champagne. Maybe this will work with smaller guest list. It is very pretty though.

Well, they would still be in alphabetical order like other escort cards would be. No one is under 21, and I figured if people don't drink, they can just grab the butterfly and leave the glass. But did not think about the champagne going flat. That is something to seriously consider. It is just so cute though Smiley smile

I would worry about people who don't drink. We had 5 guests at our wedding who are recovering alcoholics. I can't imagine putting their escort card on an alcoholic beverage.

What about if you put it on an empty glass and had the glasses used for a champagne toast before dinner? So have them empty on the table and then servers can come around and fill the glasses?

Leave the glasses empty. I drink, but occasionally I prefer cider to champagne. Depends on the champagne.

I really wanted to do this but was worried about flat champagne as well. I went with traditional cards.

Thank you all for your input. It's good food for thought. I may just have to go with card escort cards rather than risk spillage, champagne going flat, offending non-drinkers, and feeling like empty glasses are more likely to be knocked over than ones being weighted down with liquid. Back to the drawing board! Thanks again, you have all been helpful Smiley smile

I love this idea, so cute. Could you have someone handing out the empty glasses with the butterflies on it then at the end of the line have a drink station with one or two people pouring whichever drink the guest chooses (champagne, juice, cider, etc)?
