Champagne cocktail hour?

Cara, on May 22, 2018 at 10:13 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 10
A champagne cocktail hour comes included in our venue package (along with a large number or hors d’oeuvres). Is it okay to just have champagne served at cocktail hour and the open bar begin at the start of the reception? Adding an open bar to the cocktail hour is extremely expensive and I had wanted to put that money towards keeping the bar open during dinner instead. There is a bar in the hotel
lobby right near the cocktail room as well if people are set on having other alcoholic beverages. Any thoughts on this?

I think this would be fine. Yes, not everyone likes champagne, but it’s free and quality alcohol. And it’s fancy!

If you’re doing signage or programs maybe call it a champagne cocktail hour so people have the heads-up it’s champagne. But regardless, I’d never complain about free bubbly 😊

This is a great idea! Your guests will think it’s an unique cocktail hour and don’t ever have to know that the decision behind it was to save money to put towards the open bar during dinner.

I feel like there’s a lot of people who don’t like champagne. I love it but not everyone does. Could you do some beers on consumption?

Our welcome reception is a champagne and dessert reception and we have champs, wine, and beer.

Chances are that you'll have a lot of unhappy guests if only champagne is available for the cocktail hour.

I don't think there is a problem with that! I'd maybe make a cute sign saying "Champagne cocktail hour, full bar will open for reception" so people know and aren't confused.
