Chair Dilemma

Alicia, on February 24, 2020 at 3:30 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 22

So I hit a planning snag the other day and need some help.

These are the chairs my venue has. Not only are the backs not very tall, but they have arm rests as well. So I don’t think any chair covers will actually fit over them and look right. I don’t really want to rent out chairs either. I’m trying to focus less of my budget on decorations and more on food/drinks/entertainment.

Does anyone have suggestions of what I can do with them? Is alright to just leave them since they’re black?

My theme is sort of a rustic galaxy thing with galvanized metal tubs, purples, blues, and silvers. Also lots of string lights. So the tables will have dark blue tablecloths, diamond confetti sprinkled across the center to give a scattered star effect against the blue, with dark purple napkins wrapped with silver star garland, and a silver moon/string light centerpiece (that’s the current plan, I don’t have it all together yet). The bar and metals tubs for drinks will be more rustic than the tables, but the whole venue gives more of that rustic feel so I think it should be fine.

The chairs have just stumped me completely. I’ll attach the inspiration for my table set up and my bouquet for an idea of the colors. Thank you so much in advance!

I’d ask Them to send you a picture of what they would look like with a chair cover on it.

It's unfortunately a complete DIY venue. Which us nice because it was way cheaper than others, but it does leave me with more to do. Thankfully I actually already bought chair covers because I thought the chairs were different, but I remembered wrong. I'll go there and try that out.

    Thank you!

I agree that a chair cover would look odd. Since you aren't wanting to swap the chairs out completely, what about draping some fabric (tulle is usually cheapest) through them to spruce it up a bit? I know your chairs aren't the same as these but just for an idea as you could weave it through the gap in the base of the back rest.

I would just leave it as is. People don’t pay attention to these chairs as much as you think

I was wondering about that too. Especially since they're already black, they should hold up okay on their own.

Based on your theme description I think they would look fine as-is. No covers needed.

They're just chairs. Don't worry about them. If someone is going to nit pick about how the chairs look at your wedding - then they have issues.

I can assure you that no one will pay any attention to your chairs with or without covers as long as there is one for their butt to sit in. I wouldn't stress about it. They are fine.

Honestly, I’d spend the money and rent different ones. They are black, so they don’t match your colors, and they don’t look comfortable. I also don’t know any cover that will fit over the arm rests. I know some people say guests don’t notice chairs, but I always notice my chair! Especially when it’s a hard plastic one!

I think they actually kinda go with your theme! The dark color with the chrome accents will probably blend right in! But if you're set on doing something with them, I was going to suggest similar to the PP above and drape fabric over the top and through the opening in the back rather than around the "shoulders" pf the chair like you typically see.

Or ur local rental place that rents stuff for your Wedding. I would incorporate sum lights under your table clothes like ur rectangular tables. Have your table clothes go down to the floor. Very elegant. Here to give u some ideas this is what we are doing. Chair Dilemma 5

I agree with the other posters, guests hardly notice chairs. I would make sure your chairs will work for larger guests though, since they have arms on them it might be harder for plus size people to fit in them. If that’s the case for a few of your guests, I would provide another option.

Also, you could always ask your venue how brides decorated the chairs for their wedding. I’ve found the venues are usually helpful with providing design ideas, even if it is a DIY location

Thanks, everyone! I think we'll likely be keeping the chairs. I appreciate all of the feedback.

I don’t think people will notice the chairs as much as you think! I would just leave them as is. But the first picture that pp posted is gorgeous and I think that it would look AMAZING with your theme.

I had an issue with the chairs at our venue. We chose to match the napkins to the chairs (they were brown and black so the napkins we chose were brown). They looked fine. I was glad I didn't let myself worry about it too long..or pay the extra money for covers. It didn't matter in the end.
