Chafing dishes

Ruth, on February 22, 2018 at 10:44 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 8
Has anyone ever used chafing dishes for their wedding? How well do they perform? I have a guest list of 100 people and I'm not sure if these chafing dishes work that well and if so, how many would i need, to provide enough food for everyone? I was looking into getting the 2" deep pans.

This is a question for your caterer. They will bring these for you.

I'm not having a caterer. Me and my family will be making food for the event.

I would highly recommend hiring a professional. Catering is the one area of a wedding where people should NEVER DIY. You are literally risking putting people in the hospital. Affordable catering exists and will be much less of a liability to your friends and family.

Please don't self cater. Your venue is allowing you to self cater? Usually the liability insurance for the venue comes from the caterer.

Keeping food for 100 people at a safe temperature is going to be a nightmare and based on this question you don't have any prior experience in this area. The money you might save is not worth making someone sick or you or your family spending your entire wedding day (and days prior) preparing this. Look into Olive Garden, Chipotle, Moes, or a local catering company. Do not do this.

Chafing dishes are the only way to keep the food warm. There are different sizes. You will have to go look at them with your rental vendor. Bring the menu of what your are making, figure out how many chafing dishes you need of each size for each menu item. If you have more food pans than chafing dishes, you are going to need something to keep the excess food warm until it goes in the chafing dish.

you will also need the flameless liquid heating elements. And buy extra, because if they burn out or if a couple don’t work you will have cold food.

on the other end, cold food needs to stay cold! So you may need serving dishes with ice in them.
