Cermony chairs

Brittney, on December 20, 2019 at 8:52 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12
Hello. I am having a beach ceremony and the ceremony chairs are 5.50 a peice and we are having about 140 guest . I just really dont want to spend like $800 on chairs for 30 mins it’s kinda crazy !! We are thinking to go have about maybe 50-60 chairs . Does anyone think this would be weird or look funny ? This would only be during the ceremony.

Might be seen as "rude" by some guests. But this would be a great chance to have a circle style ceremony, asking guests to stand around you to show their love and support.

But maybe have chairs for older/disabled guests....

I would be frustrated if I showed up to a wedding and found out I had to stand during the ceremony. Have you looked into other chair options? Usually you can rent folding chairs for less than 2 bucks a chair.

The location will not let us due to insurance purposes . We can only use what they provide

I’ve been to a beach wedding with no chairs and it was lovely. I agree with the PP, some chairs for those who can’t stand for very long.

Also, if you're having a reception after the ceremony... Some invites will probably only attend the reception, so you can cut back a little on chairs to anticipate that too.

I don’t think it would be weird, I think it would be rude. These are expenses that you should have considered when deciding to have such a large guest list and a ceremony venue that doesn’t provide seating. Every butt needs a seat.

What's the dress code for the ceremony? Maybe beach blankets to sit on the sand instead of chairs? I've never been to a beach wedding, so I'm not sure how that would be seen by the guests, but I wouldn't mind that kind of setup!

If you keep the ceremony short, standing should be ok for most guests.

    Or you could do benches.

That’s a crazy amount of money for just a chair. I agree with others and have them stand except for those who can’t. I think about it this way- if someone isn’t willing to stand for only 30 minutes (or less) to watch two people become married, then they are not in the right mind set for this wedding. People can stand for 30 minutes and be okay.

If you are having a VERY small, short, and casual wedding, and you know for a fact that every guest is able bodied, having the guests stand might work.

It would be extremely rude to only have seating for half when you have almost 200 people at your wedding. Most guests will arrive early, be standing around, they'll need to be herded to the right spots, which takes time with so many people. They'll be standing around for much longer than the length of your ceremony. Also with so many people standing, a lot of people simply won't be able to see.
On top of that, some people have "invisible disabilities"

As I've seen here on WeddingWire, you need a chair for every butt. It can be considered poor hosting if you don't provide chairs for everyone!
