Ceremony/Processional music?? Not dramatic enough??

Kassie, on April 19, 2015 at 3:27 PM Posted in Planning 0 25

Okay, my mom keeps getting onto me about how I need to pick music for DURING the ceremony....okay....so I need music to play while everyone is getting seated and waiting for the wedding to start, for while my girls/the guys and flower girl are going down, and while I'm going down, right? just those 3? I'm trying to avoid live music at my ceremony (I don't know why, I just don't like it) So I'm planning to burn all the music I want played onto a CD (bc my ipod is a piece of crap..lol) And then played over the speakers at the church (I know it can be done because my dad has done it numerous times). I'm thinking Harry Potter music, but the soft instrumentals that aren't as well known so not many people would realize what music they are listening to. I had my mom listen to some of the soundtrack music I liked, but the one I played for my entrance ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YSb7mOk_UvU&index=2&list=PLI5bEaDeAOrOk4pRYKPhBDNEIfzPb7eR7 ) cnt'd

My mom didn't think was "dramatic" enough for my entrance song. I think it's really pretty for my walk, but she thinks the song should be more "dramatic", all the dramatic HP songs are usually associated with danger or the villain, and I don't want that. Smiley sad

(P.S.the song I linked above would probably end at about the 1:00 mark, but I'm not sure, I'd have to play around with that sometime when I can use the church and time how long it takes to walk up to the top of the aisle)

My other question: would you consider your song "dramatic"?

ETA: changed the title to fit the issue a bit better, but I do like the help with brainstorming the songs! Smiley laugh

I think you have to include Hedwig's theme in there somewhere, it's the most recognizable of all the Harry Potter songs. I'm trying to remember what was playing when Hermione came on screen in Goblet of Fire in the Yule Ball scene the first time they saw her all dressed up, I feel like that had to have had a "grand entrance" sorta feel to it but I can't really remember

ETA: I looked up the scene and the music was so pretty and here comes the bride-y but it wasn't long enough unless it's longer on the soundtrack :-\

@Cassidy- I'm trying to be more subtle HP in the ceremony (my girls in house colors, but not so much with the symbols, etc.) that way if I look at the pictures down the line, you can't really tell it was a HP wedding, until you look at the reception pictures, that's where I want most of it Smiley smile I'm trying to avoid Hedwig's Theme if I can, but in reality, it's probably the one that will match my mom's vision of a "dramatic entrance" I will try to find Hermione's tune if there is one (it might be in the track for the Yule Ball)

ETA: there is a tune for her coming down the stairs, I just re-watched the scene, but I don't think I can find it on it's own, it's just a short snip Smiley sad (I just saw your comment, lol)

Also, this would be like...super subtle and not everyone would even realize it's a Harry Potter reference, but have you heard Not Alone from A Very Potter Musical (or the Darren Criss version of it)? It's really sweet.

@Cassidy- I'm doing the same Smiley smile I've only come back with 2 so far. lol The issue I have is the song starts so pretty, but then changes course a bit after the 1:00 mark it seems like and turns into a different song

    Example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tl43VsEKs5Y&index=4&list=PL68562C6FAFBB73A4

it changes after the 1:00 mark, I love it up until then, then it goes darker bc they went into Gringotts

@Cassidy- It's been a while since I've watched a Very Potter Musical, I don't think I ever finished it because the videos were all chopped up and I couldn't find them all. I'll look up that song

ETA: I'm listening to it, I like the song, but I think I'd like instrumentals for walking down the aisle better, but I might have this song during the reception Smiley laugh

Not Alone is a great song. If you want recognizable Hedwig's Theme is the main one I think of. I saw John William's perform it live once and it gave me chills. Listening to The Vitamin String Quartet the Quidditch World Cup might be fun alternative to play.

Kassie, if you are a HP fan you'll like AVPM. They have them all in playlist format now so its easy to watch.

Leaving Hogwarts from Sorcerer's Stone is really lovely and it has a little excerpt of Hedwig's theme without it being the whole song so you get your lil nod to it in there without it being overwhelming and it builds to the end to be slightly more dramatic.

Reunion of Friends from Chamber of Secrets is really nice too

A Window to the Past from Prisoner of Azkaban has that really simple pretty flute music by itself at the start and then the strings come in to fill out the sound

@Cassidy- I love the Leaving Hogwarts theme, but my mom said it's not dramatic enough (insert scoff here bc I love this tune Smiley tongue ) ETA: this is the tune she didn't think was dramtic enough for my entrance)

I can't find Reunion of Friends in Chamber of Secrets(nvm just found it, I do really like that one! Smiley laugh I think it's when Hermione comes back after being petrifed, and then Hagrid coming back, lovelovelove ) (ETA: I might like this one for myself Smiley laugh)

I did find Introducing Colin, and I like that one too, I think the brightness of it would be good for the start of the procession.

Listening to Window to the Past, it's really pretty, but I think it sounds mournful almost Smiley sad maybe that's because I know the scene that it goes with, so I have that in my head.

Neville's Waltz or Potter Waltz from Goblet of Fire are really nice and I think slightly recognizable when you hear them

Harry and Hermione, When Ginny Kissed Harry, or The Friends from Half-Blood Prince are really pretty and feel magical without being super overtly Harry Potter since they weren't by John Williams

The last two movies are mostly way too dark to pull from lol

@Cassidy- I agree the last two are probably too dark, even Half-Blood Prince, the music has a darker quality (to me) to it than the previous movies, even the pretty ones, still sound not as chipper as previous ones. I'll probably pull mostly from the first 2 movies since they are the lightest of them all.

I will say though, I like the Weasley Stomp in Half Blood Prince, I also like Fireworks from Order of the Phoenix, it's just a fun song :3 and ya know, I just always imagine the scene in my head and laugh Smiley tongue

I'm going to have to listen to all the soundtracks when I get home and have my computer (I'm at work using their computer with no sound, and looking up the songs on my phone, lol)

@Star- I wonder why he didn't do all the movies? Smiley sad

ETA: I just saw he did the first 3, those are the brightest music as well, I love the brightness in his music.

I'm also using a song from a soundtrack for my entrance, but I doubt that any of the guests will recognize it at all. It's not what I would consider dramatic music, it's more subdued. I love it though and don't care if people think it's traditional enough or whatever.

@Wendy- Thank you! Smiley laugh I like it a lot, I think my mom's thought is that it doesn't command as much attention as the traditional "Bridal March", so she thinks it's not dramatic enough. I either like that one that I linked, of this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2aQEcHwRCmo

The movies with John William's music (the first 3 I think) make it hard to choose because they are all really pretty and light.
