ceremony wording - bride or groom first?

Tiffany, on March 6, 2017 at 10:02 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 5

Can you tell i haven't been to many weddings Smiley smile Who's name goes first during the ceremony the bride or the groom?

example:

I, bride (wife) take thee groom (husband) ... I, groom take thee bride

or

I, groom (husband) take the bride (wife) ... I, bride take thee groom

I'm assuming, it's groom (husband) and then bride (wife)? Since the end it's "I pronounce you husband and wife

thanks!

I think your officiant will decide that--why does it matter?

I don't think it even matters. You officiant will know. Or you guys can just decide who wants to go first and let your officiant know.

Google says traditionally it's the groom.

"Traditionally all of them have the Groom say his vows first, followed in turn by the Bride. In some cases the couple may choose to say them in unison to each other. Usually the couple will face each other and join hands for their vows. There are advantages and disadvantages for each kind of vow."

It doesn't matter. For the vows, I usually tell my couples the most nervous person should go first. During the ceremony script, I mix it up.

It's because I'm going though the wording of our ceremony and our officiant has it as either or and I was trying to figure out the correct wording so I could understand the flow of the ceremony. Thanks!

Throughout my ceremonies when I address my couples or refer to them I always say the bride's name first then the groom's. I like to keep it consistent. Only when it comes to the vows the groom goes first then the bride. Best wishes!
