Ceremony timing?

Maggie, on January 15, 2020 at 4:23 AM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 1
Hey all, any post-brides or officiants on here, I need some help!
My officiant is a friend of ours from college, he hasn’t actually officiated any weddings yet (maybe one at most but I don’t think so). I have a pretty solid layout for them, but I’m wondering how to keep the timing right. We have 30 min for the ceremony, and we have 9 groups walking down the aisle (groom and grandmother, grandmother with grandfather, MOG with FOG, MOB with GOB, bridesmaid with groomsmen, bridesmaid 2 w/ gm2, bm 3 with GM4, and MOH with Best Man, then myself with my dad.
We’re not doing anything religious but we are doing a handfasting ceremony and writing our own vows.
My question is, how much time will we have for vows and how much time the officiant has for whatever it is he’ll be saying

We had ten groups including myself. That also includes my brother and brother-in-law looping back around after escorting our moms down the aisle because both were in our bridal party and had to escort the person they were paired with as well. We had a non-religious wedding too. Instead of handfasting we did a sand ceremony. We also wrote our own vows. My husband's were rather lengthy. Our ceremony was approximately 20-25 minutes. We had plenty of time for our vows and for the officiant to speak. My vows were about 2-2.5 minutes and my husband's were even longer. The officiant included in the beginning about how we met and how my husband proposed in order to personalize the ceremony to us. In addition to the vows we wrote, we also had to say traditional vows because that was a state requirement. Not sure if you are having any reads, but my grandmother wrote a poem that she read for us. I would say 30 minutes should be plenty of time. I know I was worried, but it worked just fine for us.
