Ceremony Start Time & Cocktail time

Casey, on June 30, 2011 at 1:43 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

I am getting married in the beginning of May and need help deciding when to start the ceremony. I want to have a good 45 minutes to an hour of daylight after the ceremony. The sun sets at about 8 and will get dark at about 9. I also want to have a good amount of PARTY time and we only have our venue until midnight. The ceremony should only last about 20 minutes.

I was considering having a pre and post ceremony cokctail "hour". What are your thoughts?

Ceremony at 1:30 and reception at 6 Desiree? What will your guests do for the 4 1/2 - 5 hrs inbetween? i've been to weddings like that and once we sat in the car for like 3 hrs bcz we lived like 2 hrs away and another time we went to a bar and were so smashed and full by the reception... along with 80% of the other guests.. the bride got really mad at everyone.

I would encourage you all to be respectful of your guests in this situation as well.

I would say 5:30 to start for you Casey. Aren't you suppose to start your ceremony on the "up" hour of the clock? I feel like I saw that somewhere. I'm having an Oct wedding and we sorta have the same problem. Ours is on Sunday tho and more in the afternoon, I'm thinking of a 3:30 or 4:30 ceremony. Our ceremony and reception are at the same place tho, so I'm worried by 7 everyone will be ready to leave just when we are ready to get the party started! lol

    Best wishes to all!

Ceremony at 6.. cockatails to follow, that way everything will kind of flow together, you still have your hour of sunlight after the ceremony... does that help?

I recommend against starting the cocktail hour before the ceremony. In my experience, it is tough to drag the drinkers away from the bar and then they want to bring their drinks to the ceremony.

Ceremony 5:30, then cocktail hour from 6-7. Start the reception at 7 with dinner. Then around 8/8:30- the party can really get started!

We are planning to have our ceremony at 4:30 (half hour ceremony) cocktail hour from 5-6 during which the WP will be in a party bus going to different locations around town for pictures and reception 6-1am. My photographer told me these times were great for getting good natural light for the pictures. Plus we still have plenty of party time Smiley smile
