Ceremony Sound Help

Helen, on January 31, 2018 at 2:53 PM Posted in Planning 0 5

I am looking for some advice on ceremony sound. I am getting married outdoors in Maryland (outside DC), and we have strings for our ceremony, and a band booked for our reception later. They don't automatically include ceremony sound, and the quote we got for including ceremony sound seems way too high @ $700 (includes set up). I am having trouble swallowing this price, especially because we want to have a quick, casual ceremony - no longer than 20 mins. This costs even more than the strings we hired to play for 2 hours! It seems like too much $....

Does this sound high to anyone else, and anyone know of any alternatives (particularly around the D.C. area)? We got another quote that doesn't include set up for $400 which is easily better, but still seems steep for 20 minutes and no set up included. We looked into just buying some sound systems ourselves but I'm not so sure this is a great idea.

Anyone have any ideas or input, without having to break the bank?

When you say "Ceremony Sound" do you mean a mic and speakers? Does the outside ceremony site belong to the venue? If so, I would think they already have audio equipment (or are you saying they want to charge you $700 for audio).

Yes, $700 is quite high. But remember, it doesn't matter to them if you want it for only 20 minutes. The company has to send someone to go to the venue, set it up, then come back to the venue and take it back. They are probably charging you a day rate, regardless of how long you use it.

Try looking for rental places that allow you to pick up, set up and drop off the equipment yourself. Should run about $150 or so.

Yes, sorry to clarify - I am asking about mic and speakers for our officiant, and hopefully myself and groom as well. We're less important (counter intuitive Smiley smile), but it would be nice.

And yes, the outdoor ceremony site is at our venue but unfortunately does not have any sound system set up. They have outlets etc, but we would need to provide our own speakers etc. The music we hired for our wedding does not already include ceremony sound system (mic/speaker), and to add it would be $700.

$150 seems a lot more reasonable

Your officiant doesn’t have a sound system? Try DJ hire places - I would expect to pay $150-$200 without setup.

Thanks - good idea to ask a DJ service too. My officiant is actually my uncle who is a pastor - but he is flying in from another country, so it would be a lot to ask him to bring all his sound equipment as well

We bought a Bluetooth mic and speaker at Costco for 119.00.
