Ceremony Script

Jessica, on July 25, 2020 at 10:26 AM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 1 7
Our friend/officiant the just got into town yesterday. He asked for a script or guidance on what to say and I’m kind of at a loss!

All this imagining of the day and I never put much thought into the actual ceremony script. I’m not too picky about what is in the ceremony actually but since I need to provide something can anyone give me an idea of the outline or ideas of what to include?
We are eloping so it doesn’t have to entertain a crowd, just us. And the wedding is next Thursday so I’ll be doing some romantic writing in the next few days (vows too!)
I’ll be doing plenty of googling too but wanted ideas from the creative ladies on here.

I put together my ceremony script, and I based it on things I found on Pinterest! I have an intro, readings, declaration of intent/vows, ring exchange, and ending (I might be forgetting a section, I don't have my script in from me at the moment). Wording examples for each of these sections can be found online or on Pinterest. I used bits and pieces from examples that I liked to write my ceremony. If you're doing a more religious ceremony or a unity candle or sand ceremony, there are other sections you can include as well to include these.

    This site was amazing: https://www.weddingchicks.com/blog/sample-wedding-ceremony-scripts-youll-want-to-borrow-l-16537-l-41.html.

We just pulled pieces from there we liked and put our own together.

This is the first thing our officiant / priest mentioned to us, so it’s was on my mind from the very beginning to put thought and time into planning the actual ceremony as much as the rest of the wedding.

I had been working on our script, but the friend we asked to officiate is doing a script for us so when he finishes I’ll look over it and we can tweak it. I sent him the readings my mom and MOH are doing, a blessing I really like, and another passage I like. We’ll see what he comes up with. He has officiated several weddings, so I’m not worried about it.
I mainly used resources I found on Pinterest when I was writing ours as inspiration and for formatting. We want the ceremony to be personal, romantic but also funny, and fairly short and sweet around 15 minutes.
If we elope, we won’t have an officiant, so we’ll probably just read our vows since it’ll be us, our kids, and our photographer. There are sections you won’t really need if you don’t have guests- like a welcome, maybe not even readings depending on what you want.

I put together a script after searching for examples on Google. There are a bunch of examples out there for various religious and non-religious ceremonies.

There’s usually some templates online and then you can add or subtract from it whatever works for you

Google has a ton of ideas. Also check offbeatbride.com.

It can be as simple or elaborate as you want but most have an introduction, a passage of your choice (religious reading, poetry, literature reading), declaration of intent (the legally required statement), your vows, ring exchange, announcing you married. Anything beyond that is your choice.
