Ceremony, Reception Timeline and Music When Planning All On My Own

amandal0514, on January 8, 2016 at 12:12 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

I'm in the early stages of planning my own small informal wedding and reception (30-50 guests). It will probably be held at a nice restaurant in town that has a balcony overlooking the water that's available for the ceremony with the reception inside in one of their private dining rooms.

I don't want all the formalities but I'm curious on how I'm supposed to plan and announce the timeline (procession, bride entrance, cutting the cake, toasts, etc.) and use music as well if I don't have a wedding planner, maid of honor, etc.

It's going to be me and the fiance with our kids as flower girl and ring bearers. I don't have family really and the friends I have aren't that close and I feel weird making someone "work". But I guess I would need to? Do you just pick someone and ask if they'll do it?

I almost want to try and find a cheap wedding planner that can just take care of this for me!

Usually the DJ or MC does those sort of things at the reception, not the wedding planner or the maid of honor. Do you have a DJ?

I'd just pick a close friend or someone organized that you know to do some kind of emcee'ing for you. It doesn't have to be a big production, but someone to help keep the night on track will be handy. check pinterest for different timeline ideas!

as for the reception, does the restaurant have a stereo system or music playing? or did you want to do the music yourself as well? you could always try a good ipod system and make a little "wedding playlist" on there that could just play throughout the night (Apple Music and Songza have some premade ones I'm sure)

Whoever is officiating your wedding would take care of all ceremony announcements. The band or DJ would handle all reception announcements. If you don't have a band or DJ then you'll need to find someone to do the reception announcements!

Are you even going to be doing a processional with such a small party and the event all right there?

I'm having a very small event- and we are skipping all that- it's just not worth the hassle IMHO.

Well our kids are going to be in it as a flower girl and ring bearers. And I want to walk in and him be waiting for me. Just not sure how to "signal" those moments to the guests.

The officiant would let everyone know when it's about to start simply by walking to the front. People know then to get ready and get quiet. If you then start some music it makes it even more clear. As for the reception bits when such a small guest list you can likely just have a friend announce that you are about to cut the cake and to head that way, etc.
