Ceremony & reception in one place but no cocktail hr

My wedding is not until 2021. I feel like I have time to figure this out but at the same time, I don't. My MOH suggested I have the ceremony in the same space as the reception but I don't want a cocktail hour to allow us to take pictures more freely without rushing. Both my fiance and I have agreed to not do first looks (so it's not an option).

I also don't want to have people roaming around the venue while setup is happening and not knowing whats going on.

The venue is gorgeous and would love to do the ceremony there but I don't want a cocktail hour.

Has anyone done the same thing or something similar?

how would you word it in an invitation?

any advice welcomed...

I don’t understand? You don’t want a cocktail hour so you can take pictures more freely? That’s the whole point of a cocktail hour - so you can take pictures while your guests are entertained. Are you saying you’d want them to leave the venue between ceremony and reception? Because you can’t do that if your ceremony and reception are in the same place.

I’m confused as well. That’s what cocktails hour is for. So you can go back to where you had the ceremony at and retake pictures. We’re had our catering company come up with something very simple. We’re having our minister to let people know to head to the fellowship hall for cocktails and dinner.

I'm just as confused as the other ladies.
Are you doing any pictures beforehand? Like just wedding party without seeing each other? Then couple photos after the ceremony?
Or....what?
Because like they pointed out, that's literally the reasoning for having cocktail hour.

The having time to take pictures and not having to worry about what your guests are doing is the whole point of first looks.
As far as I can tell you can't either have ur ceremony somewhere else, have cocktail hour and have that time for pics, or first look and take time with picks and no cocktail hour.

What would you expect your guests to do while you are taking pictures? Even if the ceremony and reception are in different locations you would need to host them while you take pictures, that is what the cocktail hour is for.
