Ceremony - Reading Ketubah and Vows?

Stephanie, on August 16, 2017 at 12:59 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 4

My fiance and I have decided to read and sign our Ketubah during our ceremony. However, I think I would like to also read separate vows, so we could surprise each other. Has anyone ever done both Ketubh reading and vows, or is it pointless since our Ketubah is essentially our vows? If so, how were your vows different from the Ketubah?

We didn't read our ketubah during the ceremony. We displayed the ketubah afterwards and I think that was perfect. Our vows were in English & hebrew but were different from the ketubah.

How are your vows and Ketubah different in terms of language?

The Ketubah we wrote has "we promise to do as follows..." whereas the vows may include more flowery descriptions of why we love each other I think, but I am not sure.

I have never heard anyone read the entire Ketubah. You sign it, you display it, and you pick a verse or two from it during the ceremony.
