Ceremony Programs: Folded, Flat, Fan, or Full Size?

Lynnie, on May 31, 2018 at 6:05 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 13

Ceremony programs are a great place to get creative and incorporate your wedding style or theme, but they are also an easy cost to cut out of your total budget!

What's your program plan? Are you thinking folded, flat, fan, or full size? Or are you forgoing programs?

We are skipping them. They just get tossed anyway.

We’re skipping them, we have a wedding website where we’ll be putting our bridal party’s names and pictures.

We did them - I designed them in a newspaper style (using InDesign) on 11x17 paper and then we folded them twice to look like a Sunday newspaper (we had a brunch wedding). It was 100% free :-)

We are having programs. FH saw them at a print shop and loved the idea but, they were very expensive. I decided to try and make them myself and the sample turned out perfect. They are fan programs but, not the traditional style with the popsicle stick. Instead, the pages will be teardrop shape and held together by a brad. The pages can then be spread out and used as a fan.

Ours will be bookmarks. I'm printing them on cardstock (4 per sheet) and tying colored ribbon through the top. It will cost maybe $10 for 130 of them, and they're something that sentimental people can keep in a book and the others can toss.

That's such a fun idea! Definitely better for re-purposing than standard programs!

We went with folded programs for our wedding! In my pre-WeddingWire days I worked for an wedding stationery store for a few years and became a ribbon-tying expert, so I had to put that random skill to good use Smiley shame

Do you have a picture of this? I love the way it sounds (I was an editor for my college's newspaper in undergrad, so I'm geeking out a bit here) but I'm having a hard time picturing it!

I wish we had the fans when we got married! They are fun, whimsical, and one side could be decorated so that guests can wave them all at once in celebration!

Sure! Here is the front page - excuse the watermark, this is the "before" proofs from our photographer. When we presented it, it was folded in half again (vertically - right where the top columns stop and the bottom columns begin). So this is it unfolded for the first fold, and then it opened wide to present a 11x17 full page (that had two pages full of info on it).

The only one I don't like is the sign, although the sign is probably one of the smartest way to do it since I hear a lot of people throw out the program. Fan is also a great choice for outdoor summer weddings.

I had a traditional Jewish wedding and wanted to explain in our program all the rituals for those in the audience that were unfamiliar with them. So we went with the folded program style so there’d be enough space and ordered ours from Zazzle.com (the only website I could find with bi-fold options!).
