Ceremony Officiant

Natalie, on October 11, 2019 at 1:16 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 5

So a little background, my husband and I got married last year legally and we're having our reception this year.

We want to do a ceremony because his mom wasn't there and neither were his grandparents, also we want to do a vow exchange/sealing ceremony.

Initially we had a great idea of having our siblings do our officiating as they are our MOH/BM and also because we want it to be bilingual and my sister speaks Spanish and his brother English.

Well now we're at two weeks before the wedding and we're not sure what to do because there was a huge falling out with my sister and we're not even sure if she wants to come to the wedding anymore. It's on October 26th.

Any ideas?

Can his brother just do it? Since the person doesn't have to be ordained, you could really ask anyone.

The only issue with that is that his brother doesn't speak Spanish and we really need both cause some of my family doesn't understand English too well.

Is there someone else in your family that does speak Spanish that would be willing to do it? Or a friend?

Reach out to your local schools (adult continuing education, colleges, high schools, etc) to see if there is an English-Spanish language teacher who you might be able to have do it. You'll probably have to pay them, but if your priority is getting someone who is bilingual to officiate and they do not need to be ordained this might be your best bet. With the timeframe so close your options are pretty limited, so you need to decide what is the most important to you (cost, English speaking, Spanish speaking) and go with that.

You’re already married so you don’t need an officiant. Can you ask one of your Spanish speaking relatives to interpret the ceremony?
