Ceremony music- walking down the aisle!

Future Mrs. Wioncek!, on April 6, 2017 at 11:48 AM Posted in Planning 0 21

Hi everyone!

So... I'm generally incredibly decisive. Until now. We originally wanted a harpist for our ceremony and once I listened to some demos, I wasn't in love... it felt a bit thin sounding.

I work in the performing arts and happen to be doing a production right now with a gifted cellist. I've discussed the ceremony with her and am waiting on a quote for potentially cello and piano/keyboard duet.

I think I really like the butterfly waltz for walking down the aisle, but for some reason I'm not sold! Struggling with all ceremony music actually. "Our song" is Thinking Out Loud but that will be our first dance... the wedding is not religious and we are somewhat traditional, but definitely don't want the wedding march (makes me feel like I'm in a romantic comedy lol).

Sorry for the long-winded post... What are you guys walking down the aisle to? And what other songs are you using for your ceremony??

Here is a long long list of processional songs that might help you get a loose sense of the style of song you'd like https://www.weddingwire.com/wedding-songs/processional-music.

But if your cellist does sign on to do your wedding why not sit down with her and see what songs she likes to play, you might find one you like.

I hired a string quartet and I'm trying to choose songs now. Right now I'm listening to "Wonderful Tonight" by Vitamin String Quartet.

I had the rest of the wedding party walk out to a piano/cello/violin instrumental of Ben Folds' "The Luckiest". When I walked out, we transitioned to a 1 min clip called "The Theory of Everything" from the film with the same name. Worked out really well for us!

I left FH in charge of the rest of the music, he's been in touch with our ceremony musicians.

I love 'the luckiest", and "Can't help falling in love with you", and "There's a place for us"

No more '1000 years", "I think I want to Marry You" or "All of Me" thank you.

Have you asked your cellist for his/her current repertoire? They may already have something that you would like. You may also want to ask them if there is an additional fee for learning something outside of their existing repertoire before falling in love with a particular piece. You may find something you like that doesn't translate well to cello. Talk with your musician and see what he/she thinks.

I'm walking down the aisle to "Try to Remember" from The Fantasticks. I haven't decided on anything else for the ceremony yet, though.

FH REALLY wants me to walk down during cannon N D. The girls will be coming down to A Thousands Years the instrumental version. Before the ceremony we will be playing all of our favorite love songs! And the recessional to Come to Me by The Goo Goo Dolls.

If your cellist has played for weddings before, see what is in her repertoire. I hired a musician I know and trust, and she picked the other two musicians and most of the music they would play. I wrote the song I walked down the aisle to and gave her a few ideas on the other music, and she did the rest.

At first it was going to be "Spend my life with you" by Eric Bennet and Tamia, but now it is going to be "Die with you" by Beyoncé. Despite the name, it is a beautiful song. I'm sure another song will come out and I will change it again within the next year.
