Ceremony Music; live or DJ?

soontobewed2016, on August 20, 2015 at 4:09 PM Posted in Planning 1 17

We both think that it would be really cool to have a live guitarist or violinist but also don't mind the fact of just having DJ'ed music. It will be at the top of the mountain with about 180-200 ppl there so I have to consider whether or not we would be able to hear them. What music did you have for the ceremony!?

DJ here. Just because it was cheaper and I planned my wedding from a distance and in 6 months, so recorded music was easier and made sense.

Our DJ did both. How would you get the sound system a DJ needs to the top of a mountain? Evena guitar seems like work (but then, I'm not a hiker....).

We have a DJ... I really, really wanted a band. The best weddings I've been to all had bands. I'm sure the DJ will be fine, but yeah..biggest regret so far in the planning process.

We're having a DJ mostly for cost reasons and because the songs I picked out for my wedding years ago are a little...symphonic...for a traditional wedding band. He comes highly recommended, so I have full confidence in what he will do.

We are just using the DJ. I recently went to a wedding with a string trio. At the end of the ceremony, FH spotted them and said, "Huh didn't realize they were back there!" I think it's a nice touch, but some people (cough cough FH) won't even notice.

We are using a DJ. The deciding factor for me was that I want to do some non-traditional songs for my processional and recessional. If I had gone a more traditional route with the ceremony music, then I totally would have considered a guitarist.

I love the idea of a guitar or live music, but just make sure that they are connected to some kind of amplifier/mic. We were at a wedding on a golf course recently and they had a guitar player - we could not hear ANY of the ceremony music which was disappointing cuz I'm sure it was lovely.

We are getting married at a Church - ceremony music will be piano and violin. We hired a pianist for cocktail hour, and then a DJ for the reception.

We are having a guitarist for the ceremony, which will be on the venue's rooftop deck. He told us he comes prepared with his own sound equipment. If you go with a live musician, just make sure you discuss the logistics of your outdoor venue with them.

I'm having a string quartet. It was one thing that was really important to me because I'm a string player myself. Even if the guests don't notice, I will and I couldn't imagine walking down the aisle to anything else.

We'll have a string trio or quartet for the ceremony and a DJ for the reception. ETA: just realized this question was for ceremony music only. Oops. lol

Live - a guy and his guitar who has equipment since he plays professionally all over the city. He's learning some special songs for our wedding and I'm surprising FH with our first dance song.

I'm really hoping to have a string quartet at least for the ceremony. I played the violin for many years and have a special place in my heart for classical music. We of course will have to be sure it fits in the budget. I suggest contacting the instrumentalists that you are considering to see if they have a solution to your concerns about volume. Ultimately either will be okay.

I have a string quartet for my ceremony and DJ for reception. I played the cello for many years so this was a welcome splurge for me. They have a huge repertoire of pop and modern songs so I'm not stuck with classical pieces. Now I need to follow up with them about sound and equipment.

We're doing violin/acoustic guitar for ceremony and DJ for reception, but our ceremony/reception are in two separate spots. If I could bring a piano out to our ceremony spot, I'd totally do that, instead...but if we had used a DJ for the ceremony, I'd probably play a bunch of Piano Guys for the ceremony.

    Edited for spelling.

Our DJ was included with our venue rental, and it included ceremony music. we chose not to add the extra expense of live musicians at the ceremony. it wasn't important enough to us. our DJ'd music sounded perfect. no regrets.

We're having a cellist for the ceremony and that's my favorite thing about my wedding so far besides the groom.
