Ceremony Music? Instrumental version of more modern songs?

Amanda, on September 17, 2011 at 5:51 PM Posted in Planning 0 19

So I'm the worst bride ever and with 15 days to go... we still don't have any ceremony music picked out. I'm torn between the classical traditional music and wanting to do something a little bit more fun and modern. Does anybody know of any modern songs that might have been done instrumentally? I'm not even sure what I'm looking for here. Smiley sad I'm not too big on country music either. If not, what classical pieces are you ladies using? I do love Canon, but everybody does it! I'm looking for some other good ones. Thanks! Smiley smile

We're using some instrumental stuff from broadway shows and videogames we liked.

It doesn't necessarily have to be done instrumentally, just consider the mood of the song. Our processional was Train's Marry Me. Prelude was Ben Fold's The Luckiest.

I'm walking down the aisle to Rascal Flats "Broken Road", instrumental version. I didn't know what I was looking for either, but then our DJ suggested this and it's perfect!

Look up Vitamin String Quartet...they have some albums specifically for weddings with modern songs...plus just a TON of instrumental tributes to a bunch of different modern day bands.

Your welcome! I struggled myself trying to find music that wasn't so overused for weddings, Vitamin String Quartet was the perfect alternative for us!

Yeah, i like a lot of their stuff. can i ask what your playlist is for them? they have hundreds of songs and while i like a lot... i'm not sure what's 'good' for a wedding. Are you playing them for just before the ceremony or ceremony songs or...? sorry! I am excited that i feel like there's something we like, especially since i have so little time to figure it out Smiley winking

I'm walking down the aisle to "Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want" tribute to the Smiths. We're still trying to put together all our music right now and we'll probably use Vitamin String Quartet for the dinner too. But I really liked "Here Comes Your Man" Pixies tribute...if you look on their website and click on store and select wedding from the right hand menu, they have 6 albums specifically for weddings...start there and then just search for your favorite artists and see if they have a tribute album.

Ohhh yeah, I saw that! I thought the pixies song was super cute too! Right now, I think i'm going to walk down to Just the Way you are by Bruno Mars, which actually isn't done BY the vitamin string quartet, but another group. Still trying to figure out what the bridal party should walk down to and also what to play before the ceremony. I don't want to burn everybody out on the vitamin string quartet songs. So many great songs, but I'm having trouble getting the ones with the slower, 'ceremony' ish feel. I think my mom might also have a heart attack when I tell her what we're playing! hahaha

Search the iTunes store for "Piano version of popular songs for your wedding". There are two volumes, and a lot of really great modern songs done in piano. I fell in love with many of the songs. Maybe you will, too! Smiley smile

My bridal party is walking down to an instrumental version of "You're My Best Friend" by Queen and I'm walking down to an instrumental version of "Maybe I'm Amazed" by Paul McCartney

For the bridesmaids, we're using an instrumental version of Bittersweet Symphony.

Can you mix different types of instrumental songs? like if i'm doing the strings, can you have piano or other types of instruments too? we're just having a DJ, so we won't have actual strings players there, but I'm finding that a lot of the vitamin strings quartet songs feel too 'dance-y' for the bridal party... if that even makes sense. i'm looking for something a little bit slower i think

If you want classical, you may want to check out our ceremony music page. All of our music was classical. And the page has a video of each piece, so you can hear what it sounds like.
