Ceremony flowers doubling as centerpieces?

Rachael, on August 8, 2016 at 5:56 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 11

I have a vision of my ceremony flowers (pew bows & decorations, etc. not bouquets) that can be removed after the ceremony and double as centerpieces. Has anyone seen this done/done this at their own wedding? I'm wondering what kind of arrangement would look good as both ceremony decorations and centerpieces. Granted I'm sure my florist will have some good ideas but I thought I'd take a pulse here first to see if anyone's had experience with it (or pictures!). I think it's a good idea to save cost on at least SOME of the centerpieces because really, what's going to happen to those ceremony flowers after the ceremony anyway!

I believe some brides here have used the bouquets as centerpieces at their receptions. I don't see any reason not to get a second use out of the church/ceremony flowers.

I have seen aisle mason jars with flowers easily double as centerpieces and other decor for the reception space. I would consult a florist because they will be arranging the flowers based on where they will go. So, if they're being tied to pews, the arrangement will probably have a "flat" back which might not match your vision for centerpieces! It's a great idea though, I hope it works out!

We see this all the time. Generally, the arrangements are put on columns for the ceremony, then moved to the tables. It works out perfectly!

Yep! I will be using my 8 ceremony trees as center pieces and the rest of the tables will be filled with candles and short arrangements . The Attached is the inspiration picture I gave my florist. Get to see the preview on the 25th at my tasting!

I repurposed my 8 BM bouquets as my low centerpieces (did a mix of low and high) which saved $400! I have also seen altar flowers reused, arch flowers put on the sweetheart table, etc.

I am planning to have two large centerpieces to use at the ceremony and then move them inside, one for sweetheart table and one for welcome table. I think it is doable for a few pieces but logistic might be hard if you are planning move it all.

Yes!!! It's a great option if you can! A few things to consider:

    1) Is your ceremony outside? Some flowers don't react well to sun/heat/wind.

    2) Who will be moving the arrangements? Sometimes they can be heavy, and if the vases are rented, the florist may want to move the arrangements themselves to prevent any dropping/damage. (Expect a charge for the relocation fee)

    3) Do they work as centerpieces? For example, an arrangement in a heavy stone earn may be to heavy for the table to hold and may be difficult to transport to a different vessel.

We're just going to use our bouquets for the main tables and that's it.

I've seen this done. (I used to do weddings years ago, before I was a bride). It's very smart, and a great money saver.

If you do one sided pew arrangements ( hanging) that are symmetrical, then you can face them back to back in a vase (after taking off the ribbon of course!). This is assuming you would have someone on site to fill in the gaps away from the crowd...say, while you are cocktailing in a separate space.

Your BM bouquets will usually do fine to decorate the head table, if you are doing one.

And any large ceremony pieces can be used to grace entrance tables, appetizer tables etc.

I did that for my wedding. All the flowers that were in the ceremony, got moved over to the reception.
