Ceremony Exit "props"

Brittany, on April 5, 2023 at 9:53 AM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 15

So when exiting your ceremony, everyone is familiar with the rice throwing of the past, and the new alternatives like bubbles, biodegradable confetti, etc. Has anyone skipped this altogether and had nothing, or is planning on doing nothing? For some reason having nothing feels weird to me, but at the same time I also know it's not necessary and the guests can just clap if they're looking for something to do with their hands as we're heading back up the aisle lol just looking for other's input here.

I haven't been to a wedding in the last 10 years that has done anything like that. They're hands will be full with their phones anyway lol.

I haven't been to a wedding in the last decade either that's done anything like that. PPL just leave and go take pictures.

We didn’t do anything. Guests were busy clapping.
There are many old traditions that do not hold up.

I have never been to a wedding with anyone doing anything like that. I’ve honestly only ever seen it in movies and on TV. People normally just clap and cheer while the exit music plays.

My brother and my SIL did bubbles, but there was so no music (or it was too quiet) because everyone was clapping and cheering. I honestly don’t know if im going to do anything. Especially since my reception and ceremony are at the same place and guests don’t have to drive anywhere else.

We had nothing. That’s more normal in my experience than anything else. Probably only 1 out of the last 10 weddings I attended had a “thing” — flower petals.

I don’t see that anymore. People do that stuff nowadays after the *reception* but not after the ceremony.

When we exited our ceremony we didn't have any of this, but we did stop halfway down the aisle and did a dip kiss:

We had friends who got married a year ago and they had these little streamer wands they wanted guests to wave as they exited, we had people who had us toss flower petals, but ultimately I don't think anything is needed.

We can't have anything! Beach island rules (it's turtle nesting season, so lots of restrictions) I doubt anyone will notce or care. I won't! 😁

While historically rice etc. used to be thrown either at the end of the ceremony or as a send off, these days I have only ever seen bubbles, streamers etc. done at the very end of the reception not following the ceremony. And even then rarely since the couple no longer leaves the party before most guests for their big "getaway."

This is such a good example of a "tradition" (and how widespread of a tradition it actually was is pretty debatable) that doesn't need to be replaced with anything. You can just skip it and no one will notice. Like many of the other commenters, I have been to FAR more weddings without any exit props than with them. Your guests will still know how to celebrate you.

I had paper cones filled with bruised rose petals and I asked our officiant to say “everyone please pick up those rose petals and let’s celebrate the new mr and Mrs” and then we walked down the aisle and everyone threw the rose petals at us. Made for great photo op. I ordered “bruised” petals because they were cheaper than “perfect” rose petals. To be honest their imperfections were not noticeable at all!

So I am planning to do bubbles, though this is primarily due to us not doing an exit at the end of the night. So I see it as an alternative to an end-of-night exit. If you plan to do an exit at night then I see no need for one at the end of the ceremony.

I am planning to have the streamers on the sticks so that people can just wave in the air. It's not messy and it double as a party favor.
